Looks like I'm defeating liberalism by just staying home and taking care of my babies! Hey, beaversmom, we're heroes!

Congratulations. Women like you (and like my wife) are heroic. It takes a lot of guts to put a career on hold and stay home with kids.

I stayed home and raised my babies. Did the team mom and home room mom thing. Hauled lacrosse gear around behind the team, before and after the game. Cooked meals instead of eating out, to save money. Kids are out of college now. And I went back to work. Over the last 3 years, I have gone from mom to making over 50K.

Not one regret. Not a single one. My time for outside work is now. Did I mention that I had a great husband. Maybe that's the key......

And I sincerely applaud you for doing so!
If circumstances allowed, I would also choose to be a stay at home mother.
Hirshman is obviously an idiot!
We used to call her lack of comprehending the full and rich range of hard fought feminine choice, "penus envy".
I guess intentionally ignorant idiot is more PC nowadays.

Yes, you are! I'm sending this despicable rant to our daughter, stay at home mom, expecting number 4 in June. I'm sure she'll have some thoughts to share with Ms. Hirshman.

You are. My mom was a "stay at home mom", raised five boys (spanning 18 years difference from youngest to oldest), was the family taxi driver, the family rock, probably baked 10,000 cookies for cub/boy scout meetings (and was den mother for all of us), washed 1 million loads of football/baseball/basketball uniforms, and endured 20 years of military life (e.g. moving between continents every 1-3 years and etc). And through it all she had a fully cooked meal on the table every night, taught us manners (yes/no sir), made sure we attended church/bible school on Sundays, and always made sure we knew we were loved --- now don't get me wrong mom can "wack" pretty good as well.

She is a HERO in our book and will always be.

We always joke with her that because what she endured with us she automatically has "go to heaven directly" membership.

Feminism was supposed to be about giving women choices. Being a full-time homemaker is a legitimate choice.

And thanks very much to both of you for making sure the next generation is a conservative one. Your children and their children will benefit from it.

I thought this crap sounded familiar. This Hirshman person was on Medved's show a couple of months back--she was really obnoxious but that usually goes hand in hand with being a leftie.

Here's a blogger's opinion about the show and what she said:

The Best Life Possible
I have always had some respect for people who study philosophy and have earned the title philosopher. I mean that some of the topics in philosophy are heady and complicated. I mean the greatest philosophical feat will still be turning lead to gold.

But my assumptions about the worthiness of philosophy and philosophers were shattered by an interview on the Wednesday, December 29, 2004, Michael Medved Show, with lawyer-philosopher Dr. Linda Hirshman.

She says that highly educated women should not leave the workforce to become full-time mothers. She says that being a mother is not worthy of an educated woman. She further states that it would not be the "best life possible."

Of course, I would have to disagree with her. Being a parent, specifically a mother, is probably the most important job in our society. Children are the future for our society and teaching them and guiding them are affecting the future of the entire world in countless ways.

Dr. Linda Hirshman is living in a weird world where children are better off being raised by strangers and babies are better off not being born. Loving parents are the exception rather than the norm. Sounds like the Democrat's utopia to me and the vision laid out by the left. I really don't get those people who are so into consuming that they don't have time to spend with their kids. It is true that it is expensive to have a good life today, but time is the one commodity that we can't buy. These consumers are the same people who cry, "why me," when there children do something bad to get attention.

Personally, I spend as much time as possible with my children. I have intentionally given away promotions and extra cash to be with my children. I kind of feel like I'm self -actualized; but as far as living the best life possible, I can't imagine a life now without my children. Being a parent has also made me a better leader and manager. Well I'm glad that my wife and myself don't buy into Dr. Hirshman's distorted vision of reality; because her best life possible simple ain't living at all.

Beyond this, she seems to demonstrate an inherent dislike for children in general, and infants in particular.

Linda Hirschman has never met Lulus. I dare her to try and resist the cuteness of her big head, blue eyes, and pudgy little body.

She identifies these tasks as "sweeping and cleaning bodily waste," and condemned mothers who were described in a press account as "vigilantly watching their babies for signs of excretion 24-7" as "untouchables" by choice.

I love it when super cutie does a super duper pooper. Shows me she's getting enough to eat and everything is being processed nicely. I hose her down and she is as good as new. And I'm not untouchable--I wash my hands.

I have a feeling Linda Hirshman would despise me but I'm not an educated elite anyway so she'd probably figure I was doomed from the get go.

Let the conservative women procreate and the liberals breed themselves out of existence. Works for me.

"Infused with the ideology of radical feminism, she now argues that the entire pattern of gender relations must be revolutionized."

If the results don't fit the theory, change the rules so that they do...

My wife and I were married about 20 months ago. I have a J.D., and she has a Masters in Music Education. She knew that once we got married, what she really wanted to do was stay at home and be a housewife and homemaker. Tomorrow, she will be 38 weeks pregnant with our first child, and we're both ecstatic. She has no desire to return to work outside the house (there will be plenty of work available at home) and looks forward to the most important vocation that she can imagine: being a mother to our child.

I am constantly amazed at how fulfilling it is to have someone like that by my side.

To all other wives who are making the conscious decision to stay at home and be a source of comfort and support for their children (and their husbands), thank you. You are making a big difference in the lives of America's future.
