Why is there no uproar from conservatives and the conservative media.
This is such a rotten political barrel, it defies description!
Planned Parenthood created a separate organization for political action, appart from their abortion business. The abortion organization does not get into politics.
This is exactly what faith based organizations should be doing to qualify for federal funds without exposing their church to federal government controls.
Who ever thought infantcide would become a political motivation? How long before we start hearing talk about taking the old people out?
The same way that churches allow politics from the left from their pulpits and it doesn't affect their tax exempt status.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. - Home - http://www.plannedparenthood.org/
You will see that the organization that receives the tax dollars and the organization that promotes political action for specific candidates are one and the same.
Then check out how outrageous Planned Parenthood has been about the rape of little girls and the number of criminal acts (not just tax fraud) that Planned Parenthood was exposed of committing.
What is going on has criminal implications as well as the abuse of tax payer dollars.
But they can't be prosecuted for the same reason that criminal gangs in the 1920s and 1930s could not be prosecuted - they have the support of many powerful politicians - such as the hierarchy of the National Democratic Party and almost all Democratic and some Republican presidential contenders in the last 20 years.
Yea, and why should this be a non-profit in the first place?
That's easy.
The IRS has documented numerous financial scams by so-called "non-profits" and "foundations."
Now any number of financial travesties can be hidden in a Foundation or non-profit by calculatedly wrapping oneself in high-minded ideals with the intent of engaging in tax fraud.
The IRS is making an effort to investigate these schemes under its Tax Exempt Compensation Enforcement Project.
On August 10, 2004, the IRS announced a new enforcement effort aimed at identifying (and eliminating) the provision of excessive compensation and other forms of financial benefits by tax-exempt organizations to their officers, directors or other insiders.
The IRS announcement sent chills through the NPO-Foundation types.
The IRS stated that it would contact nearly 2,000 charities and foundations to seek more information about their compensation practices and procedures. The enforcement project will include audits as well as other forms of contacts with exempt organizations that may develop into audits, such as letters asking for details concerning compensation practices and procedures, and possibly specific inquiries developed as a result of information reported on an organizations Form 990.
The IRS enforcement project is aimed at detecting excessive compensation and improper compensation practices that may result in private inurement or more than incidental private benefit, and, especially, excess benefit transactions (which are actually illegal conversions and money-laundering schemes).
Harsh criticism from Congress (including, specifically, the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee) regarding the absence of a strong IRS enforcement program concerning exempt organization compensation abuses has also been an important contributing factor to the IRS announcement of this enforcement project.
The IRS enforcement project began in late July and is expected to continue into 2005 (and, depending upon the information developed, probably into the indefinite future). This enforcement project is certain to have a significant impact on literally thousands of exempt organizations.
How the NPOs pull off frauds: accounting entries for "administrative, legal, consulting or maintenance" fees actually go to co-conspirators who kickback the monies. Accountng entries might list non-existent phantom vendors getting large contracts for signifucant sums of money. Those funds are then illegally converted, and deposited elsewhere, and could be laundered into campaign accounts to politicians friendly to PPhood's goals
The SEC and DOJ may also be interested in these frauds: Donors to PPhood may be engaged in shady schemes and may have colluded with corporate donors who are officers of publicly-held companies in schemes that may have included misusing corporate reserve accounts, concealing losses, inflating asset values and improperly accounting for transactions, as well as deferring profits into reserve accounts, improperly shifting capital funding to other projects to hide illegal payments to PPhood.
Money laundering schemes evade the IRS, SEC, FEC and state and federal US banking laws.
The IRS asserts nonprofits, institutes, think tanks, authorities, trusts, unoins, and foundations, have the potential for, and may, in fact, be major money laundering conduits. They wrap themselves in high-sounding causes while perhaps engaging in activities that are fraudulent and benefit insiders at the expense of law-abiding Americans.
To the best of my knowledge the IRS has not targeted PPhood.
The IRS should determine whether PPhood is properly accounting for all its activities derived from government grants, and whether PPhood is inflating legal costs, and whether it is using government grants for the purposes stated. Taxpayers need to know whether PPhood is engaged in Enron-style accounting and spending practices using government grants---which could be grounds for government fraud charges.
What's even more obscene is the $265 million it receives annually from the federal governement not counting what it gets from state governments.
The political arm is a 501c4, which can do political action if I remember correctly.
The 501c3 has more limitations than a c4...
Same people in most cases, different hats...
As someone points out in this thread, more faith-based organizations should organize C4s.
You're attacking the wrong entity.
The people to go after are the folks who created the labyrinth of laws that allow for this arrangement.
There is an up side. James Dobson at Focus on the Family has done exactly the same thing. I think his is called Focus on the Family Action Committee.
To be fair minded you should include him in your discussion.
Planned "Parenthood" shares it's "No Consequences", baby killing, mentality with the liberals and the MSM.
There is no oxygen sufficient to maintain any shouts or objections.
Anyone have better references to The Negro Project of 1939 by Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood.
The racist origin of Planned Parenthood really needs to be exposed to stop this tax fraud and waste of US Taxpayers money.
