Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. said yesterday it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will try to block a United Arab Emirates company from taking over port operations in Baltimore.
Ehrlich (R) said he is continuing a crash review of the security concerns raised by the proposed purchase by Dubai Ports World of the British company that currently oversees the movement of cargo containers at the busy mid-Atlantic port.
But when asked yesterday if he now agrees with President Bush and supports the sale, Ehrlich said, "Clearly, the facts are moving in that direction."

As with a lot of other fairly intelligent people in this country, Ehrlich realizes that clinging to his initial impulse would make him look increasingly dumber than a bag of rocks.
Like Rush said. Many would chage their minds from their intial kneejerk reaction.
(change their minds)
The facts be damned...I say we scream and run around in circles.
And fall on the floor and kick our feet and hold our breath until we turn blue.
"crash review of the security concerns"
Well, don't spend too much time on it - don't trouble yourself!
They all fell prey to the headlines last week. I was frankly quit disappointed in the official initial reaction of some of our elected officials. I mean they have lots of people working for them with vast resources and still fell victim to the sensationalized headlines whereas regular folks like uswere able to get all the true details, including laws pertaining to this matter with a few short hours.
I'm happy to see Governor Ehrlich has a more reasoned sensible approach to the matter now. I feel soon others will follow.

NEVER MIND
I just wish there were some way the mods would allow me to post a false press release. Think about the reaction around here if Walmart were to announce that it had decided to expand into commercial port operations.
The egg on liberal and conservative faces will be enough to feed a battalion.
There are a number of Republicans I generally like that got swept up in hysteria. The good ones are awakening from their stupors and sheepishly questioning what they did under the "influence" while finding way to save face. The rest are worthless.
I'll give credit to Erlich, in this piece he seems to be taking a more adult approach then others backtracking seeking to excuse their own behavior as fault of the administration. In a state like Maryland in an election year he is retreating from his prior position appropriately and with some credit.
In case anyone is wondering, I do not intend to hold good Republicans accountable indefinitely for, albeit a big, mistake so long as they repair the damage their hysteria caused. Hysteria is tough to reason with, it usually has to run its course or get a hard slap in the face before sanity can return. It DOES present obstacles for ANY Republican looking to be President however, if they were party to this hysteria.
Seem like the President had a knee jerk reaction - he said he didn't know about the deal, then came out right away and threatened a veto. It's sad people are caving on this.
LOL, even better, Halliburton.
Well, imo, some coservatives have become increasingly arrogant and condesecending in their denouncements of the administration of late. As though they are the epitomy of conservative perfection. Can't say I'm sorry in the least they are being forced to eat some humble pie on this.
I can hear the heads exploding at DU already.
At DU...look at all the people who keep giving this crap life support here. It would sound like a bag of Orville Reddenbacher gone crazy here.
