National RALLY Set to Protest Against Sale of U.S. Port Operations to the UAE
Jihad Watch ^ | 2/23/06 | UAC

Posted on 02/23/2006 3:16:25 PM PST by CaliFReeper1

Spread the word to all, let's make this a huge national protest: The United American Committee announces a protest rally on March 4 against the recent sale of the operations of our nation's ports to a United Arab Emirates-owned company. The protest will be held in New York by the port at West 42nd St. & West Side Hwy (Route 9A) in Manhattan on SATURDAY, March 4, 2006, at 12:00 Noon, and also a protest on the West Coast as well on the same day in Los Angeles, Saturday, March 4, at 11000 Wilshire in West Los Angeles, at 12:00 Noon. “Would we have allowed our ports to be operated by a Japanese Imperial owned or German Nazi owned company during WWII?” remarks United American Committee founder Jesse Petrilla. “We have heard from our politicians, now it's time that we hear from the people of America...We need to send a clear message to our president that Republicans and Democrats alike agree that this deal goes against the best interest of our nation and its people.”

The UAC believes that President Bush should reconsider his vow to veto any legislation that may pass through congress which would block the sale. The UAC stance is that President Bush needs to realize that neither Democrats or his Republican constituents want this sale to occur. The United Arab Emirates is a government which has been far from cooperative in the war on Islamic extremism.

The UAC urges anyone within distance to attend the rally in New York or Los Angeles and for those in middle America to gather their friends and hold their own rallies in their towns. The United American Committee asks that protesters send a united message against the sale of the ports. Rally details are subject to change and all updates will be on the UAC's website at www.UnitedAmericanCommittee.org.

“The people need to stand up and demand that the government address the will of the citizens to stand against our enemies before it's too late...before one of those cargo containers comes through with a nuclear bomb inside.” says Petrilla.

Other people may have said that, but not me. I said that I make up my mind on the merits of an idea, not on who else supports or opposes the idea.

I have yet to hear how this deal will result in our ports being less safe than they are now.

I don't hear people crying about how our Chinese owned ports are unsafe and are a big security risk. If there are people saying that, then they don't have any evidence to support their claims.

That's the same argument we heard about immigration laws not being enforced: so what, they're just here for a better life, let it go. Even after 9/11 we're still hearing it despite the fact had they been enforced the attack might not have happened.

If you don't want to get it fine but those who live near ports do not want to go down on the same ship you're on. The UAE had terrorist ties with Osama Bin Laden, that's not enough for you?" What does it take?

DHS scans (some) shipments in UAE *now* for that reason. Will we keep that ability if this deal goes south?

What's your source on that? The reason that I ask is that I was just reading the Federal Research Division's December 2005 country profile for the UAE, and it says on page 25: "In December 2004, the Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), which operates the main container ports of Mina Jabal Ali and Mina Rashid, became the first Middle Eastern port to participate in the U.S. Homeland Security Container Security Initiative (CSI) program, which is aimed at preventing materials that could be used by terrorist groups from entering the United States in shipping containers. Under the CSI, DPA employees will screen suspicious United States-bound containerized cargo transiting Dubai's ports." (My emphasis added.)

I'll have to look that one up. I had seen a link somewhere that DHS was directly screening cargo. Mea Culpa, if wrong.

A dumb idea promulgated by ignorance.

Hannity was the King of Ignorance today, arrogantly displaying it for all to see.

Ain't no one on this site can call me a Bush bot but this is one time I solidly agree with him.

The reality is that this is political posturing that whips up the easily frightened in knee jerk response.

The UAE ain't our enemy. They are better allies than are the Democrats.

Simply demonstrating to you where immigration/guest workers intersect with the ports.

So basically there's a special visa that I was unaware of that allows in dockworkers. How wonderful, I'm sure the UAE has plenty ready to send.

I don't know much about that particular visa since it seems some-what narrow in its usage. For the discussions we usually have, the H2A and H2B are the ones of interest.

When Bush, and others, say that the guest worker programs are broken, they are not talking about the D-1 or the H1B.

sorry, but YAWN...so much ado about nuttin'
Group think at its worst...

Frankly, all this is getting boring...the MSM, the Pollyticians, talk radio blathering and nobody telling the truth...

I'm getting to the point if of caring a damn about any of it any more. As long as I can wake up in the morning and go to work. Once "it" starts preventing me from doing that then it's time to lock and load.

Going into fed up with it all overload...

It's just wide enough so that UAE will be able to bring in people that most likely will not be screened, posing a terrorist threat and will end up replacing American workers Rush and others keep saying isn't going to happen.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone in the media picks up on the existence of the D-1 visa, I've never heard of it until today.

I've got to read up more on the D-1, I think it just applies to the owners of the vessels themselves.
