NEW YORK -- The Port Authority said Thursday it will file suit to block a Dubai-based firm from taking over operations at a Port Newark container terminal, saying the federal government has not given them assurances about security issues.

I never used the term idiot...I used the term ignorance.

Ignorance is lack of knowledge...a mental vacuum. That is exactly what the knee jerkers are displaying. Ignorance.

FACT: Arab countries have been operating in our ports for years.

FACT: Saudi Arabia owns port operations along the entire eastern seaboard and in the gulf.

FACT: The majority of container terminals are operated by foreign companies or governments

FACT: The UAE is considered an ally by Gen. Tommy Franks

FACT: This port deal has nothing to do with port security.

FACT: 90% of posters who are opposed to this port deal haven't spent more than 5 minutes digging and researching who controls the ports, the terminal capacities and distribution of control of those facilities.

There are some facts for you...there are lots more facts salient to this issue. Go get some more facts...and fill up the mental vacuum...

I expect the other states will eventually join NY in the suit.

Putting our safety in the hands of unions has already proven to be a mistake.

The President did not want the TSA to be unionized. The dems insisted and we have an endless parade of arrests of the TSA employees.

Well said.. I'm afraid that someone will convince a judge somewhere to block operational license to some of these terminals and completely shut down shipping for months on end until its resolved or another company can come in and set up shop...

Democrats haven't made a dent in the expanding economy boom.

They have given up calling it a jobless recovery.
They have given up talking it down with there lackeys in the media leading the way.

Here is a blatant attempt to hinder trade and potentially shut down some major ports.

I fear Democrats in Congress far more than a few greedy arabs in the Las Vegas of the middle east!!

Not true. A federal lawsuit will stop the transaction.

ha-ha. people are definitely getting their marching orders on this one. They are so confused. I love the "people are finally starting to get the facts and come around on this one" line.

I am convinced some on this board are literally in love with this Pres. Now don't get me wrong, I like Pres. Bush, worked to get him elected, etc....but it is okay to disagree with him on some things.

I thought only Democrats fell in love with politicians....

"Rush was talking about htis today. He is in favor of the deal and did a bit of research. It was the longshorman's union that raised the scuttlebut to the dems. The union is worried it will harm their members."

Sorry, no. He did no study. That was a Bush talking point starting yesterday bubbling up in talk radio, not Rush first. Blame the unions. Which doesn't make sense, the unions have no less bargaining power with a Dubai company than a British one.

I wonder if anyone is really up to the challenge..

There is the rub.. I wonder where the research is on the ChiCom company (PSA) that DPI outbid P&O for and their interest in derailing the deal? I wonder who has more interest in the ChiComs running the ports?

The British firm, P&O, signed a 30-year lease with the Port Authority, and that lease would be assumed by DP World on March 2 unless Congress intervenes. President Bush has promised to veto any legislation blocking the sale.

So Dubai Ports World only has a lease on the property. Then that makes them like any other legitimate business owner. If they violate the terms of their lease then you can throw them out. I would think that helping terrorists would be a violation of the lease. Don't you think?

Everyone is so hot to form an opinion on this...why not see what DPW does, how they operate their part of the ports. I can't imagine them putting up armed guard towers and razor wire and setting up their own military bases. Which is how everyone is acting. It's a business, and DPW should be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to operate effectively. If they fail we can terminate their leases and it's that simple.

The rest is just noise to make the president look bad, ineffectual, or out of touch.

The saving face charade has begun.

Oh, we just a more intense scrutiny, we don't want to stop the process permanently.

All this using the word secret.....as a code word.

The law meant for the process to be secret.

It was signed in 1988 by Ronald Reagan.

To hear Hannity and Levin you would think the world is about to come to an end and it's all the President's fault.

I guess being in NY has a lot to do with Hannity's intellectual honesty in this matter. /s/

If you have the chance to listen to Limbaugh, you'll notice the phraseology is right from his mouth. Rush is deploying "trend journalism", depicting as news what you wish where opinions should move.

One thing is for sure. The people who are supporting this DPW/UAE sweetheart deal on FR, believe in the bureaucratic judgments of big government Republicans. Why am I not surprised.

Good news is that the vetting process will change. Too bad it didn't happen earlier during the rule of Klintigula.

The majority of stevedoring done in our ports is done by foreign companies...including the Saudi Arabia Shipping Company which operates facilities from the Port of Newark to Texas...

And you're saying that's a good thing? Anything to support the Prez, huh?

BTW how is this for hypocrisy, sean vannity works for a news network(Fox) that is part owned by a saudi prince.

Get the facts? When Dr. Laura called muslims "murders" on her show, you wrote the following:

Bring on the second crusade.
