Dubai Ports Company Hires Bob Dole As Lobbyist
The Moderate Voice ^ | 2-22-06 | Joe Gandelman

The Dubai company that's at the center of the controversy swirling around management of several American ports has hired former Majority Leader Bob Dole as its lobbyist to address the bipartisan uproar over the deal, CNN's Andrea Koppel reports: The 1996 Republican presidential candidate was "engaged" by Dubai Ports World shortly after lawmakers on both sides of the aisle began expressing their strong opposition to the deal, said Mike Galloway, an aide to the retired senator.

He is considered a GOP elder statesman, and his wife, Elizabeth, now represents North Carolina in the Senate.

Dole is a special counsel in the Washington office of the law firm Alston & Bird. DP World hired the firm in 2005 to help shepherd its purchase of the British-based firm Peninsular and Oriental, which currently manages the U.S. ports, Galloway said.

Dole is, of course, an experienced politico, a longtime inside-the-beltway insider and someone who still reportedly has some clout within his party.

He is also an experienced salesman who hawked Viagra on television for awhile.

He will have his work cut out for him: members of both parties are concerned that the port deal could do to America's port security what Viagra helps people do...

As I said before, I'm no longer opposed to this port deal after listening to some good discussion over the airwaves. I am, however, VERY concerned about the competence of DHS to overseas port security as they can't even manage border security...

Why spend $7 billion to blow up something that you can easily do for free?

If they can get it into the port, they can get it out. So they wouldn't blowup the port.

"Savage is clinically psychotic, and he's liable to arguing for the ports deal tomorrow."

With his history regarding immigration problems and terrorists infiltration, don't hold your breath.

And risk losing not just their $7 billion just the same, but also a U.S. strike on their own country?!

I looked for the "news reports proving your points" and didn't see them.

Why don't you link the EXACT articles with the facts to back up your three statements for us?

LOL - when Dole is successful lobbying not just his wife, but most of the GOP Senators, you are going to regret that comment.

Another phoney conservative being used in this mess.

This nonsense must be extremely important to all the pseudo-conservative, anti-American, self proclaimed, CFR Marxist type, governing elite who seem to be in a panic to sell out America.

They had ties to 9/11 and refused to co-operate in the investigation. Did we attack them?

If you actually read the article, DPW hired the law firm Dole is at last year, you know, BEFORE the controversy.

How do you know what's already here? Who says it would be a nuke? Or just one of anything. And keep in mind the NY Times blew it on the NSA listening thing. THAT was working. (the a$$hole$)
