It appears they fear the investigation into a charge of Treason, or Aid and Comfort to the Enemy in time of war ---and are burning the "files".....

Or,

Subscription and Advertising income is so poor, this is an insurance fire.

Or -- both.

Personally, I hope the place burns to the ground..
