Now, it's just like some of the other sites where you don't know if what you're reading is today or two weeks ago. I always find this little section called "the date" and a calendar helpful.

I've thought the same thing but have been too afraid to say anything, especially about the breaking news. And I really count on getting a lot of my news on FR.

The threads are user supplied. If the users don't want to put up a thread on any given topic it won't get put up. If the users want to put up a thread on something that was yesterday's news two weeks ago, that is what gets put up. FR is not a news service, but a discussion board.

While we are all navel-gazing, I'm wondering why do FR veterans avoid posting under Your Opinion/Questions and choose Miscellaneous instead?

Perhaps it's because of too many people posting vanities to breaking news.

I agree there's plenty of problems with the setup of this site, but there probably could've been a better way to vent your frustration than this right?

What is considered breaking news has been reduced to pretty much nothing. It takes a Sep. 11 or an Olympic skating event to get up there these days. :-)

re: the title, I think you mean "What
has happened to Free Republic?"
At any rate, it raises some good questions.

Your question is probably not Breaking News, Holly.

As regards breaking news ... the items stay on the sidebar until they are pushed off by new posts.
They scroll off slower than they used to because the moderators are being more selective about what new posts they allow as breaking news.
