What is considered breaking news has been reduced to pretty much nothing. It takes a Sep. 11 or an Olympic skating event to get up there these days. :-)

re: the title, I think you mean "What
has happened to Free Republic?"
At any rate, it raises some good questions.

Maybe her motherboard is dried out. She should add fresh Prestone immediately.

Your question is probably not Breaking News, Holly.

As regards breaking news ... the items stay on the sidebar until they are pushed off by new posts.
They scroll off slower than they used to because the moderators are being more selective about what new posts they allow as breaking news.
To: holly101
The mods have a sense of humor, they put this in Breaking.

I don't have a lot to say, mostly I just lurk.

While we are all navel-gazing, I'm wondering why do FR veterans avoid posting under Your Opinion/Questions and choose Miscellaneous instead?Because "Whitewater" is no longer an option . . .

I don't even look at the sidebar. Hit the "messages" link at the top part of the main page and bookmark it. Anything that is new and happening will be getting a lot of action. I have my preferences set to display the last 50 messages, so I am always up to speed. That is what the whole concept of BTTT (bump to the top) is all about. I bet that is how the large majority of freepers access this site. If not, it should be.

You can go ahead and get mad but it's still the truth.
I feeel yur pain and under stand your concern.
It's just the ebbs and flows of the news business, more than likely ( or all the mods are watching the Olympics) ... or maybe it's the new UAE port management of FR. (/tinfoil hat adjust)

In breaking news, some of it will stay there for weeks when it's old news. So how long would you like this post to stay in "Breaking News"?
FR, though not specifically a news service, requires careful attention when reading threads to determine how old the news is. I read FR primarily for comment - not for breaking news. It sounds like you would like FR to be something it was not designed to be. JMO.
