Illegal aliens robbed trying to cross into U.S.

FROM STAFF REPORTS Feb 21, 2006, 9:23 pm

Forty-four illegal aliens were robbed twice Tuesday morning, first on their way into the United States and again once they crossed the border.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office responded at 8 a.m. to County 18-1/2 Street and the Colorado River near Gadsden for the group who had been apprehended by the Border Patrol. Those in the group said they had been robbed in Mexico and then robbed again after they crossed the border.

"I don't know of anything they could have had left," said YCSO Capt. Eben Bratcher.

YCSO said the second robbery occurred just across the border. The illegal aliens were lined up and searched at gunpoint by four unknown suspects. The suspects were looking for wallets and any other items of value, YCSO said.

"It was the same modus operandi (as previous robberies)," Bratcher said. "They wait for them, they rob them and then they run back across the border."

Bratcher said the Sheriff's Office learns of only a fraction of the total number of these robberies. He said the agency is only notified when illegal aliens are apprehended by Border Patrol, as they were in this case, and then say they were robbed.

"How many are occurring and go unreported?" Bratcher said. "I'm sure that's a significant number. If you are here illegally, the last thing you are going to do if you get robbed is call the cops."

YCSO said none of the victims were injured, and all were being sent back to Mexico by Border Patrol. Bratcher said the double robbery showed there was clearly more than one group attempting to rob illegal aliens crossing the border.

However, those who would rob them at gunpoint would gladly rob you or me.

Not likely. The perps went after the illegals, because they were a unarmed and isolated. Easy targets.

I'm armed and not an easy target. The perps would have avoided me.

Man, it seems like I'm taking a beating for posting this.

Don't sweat it. The comments are not directed at you personally; they are directed at the article.

Exactly right. I did say that exploitation of illegals was one minor reason. A complete list would have been just like yours, with the order changed a little. I don't see that you missed a thing. My order would have been 6,1,3,2,4,5.

I agree that #6 should be at the top- in fact if all the other situations didn't exist I would still be against illegal entry, so that should put it at the top.

I wasn't picking on your post, when I have a little free time I try to get as many facts posted on these threads as I can to make more people aware of all the issues.

Perhaps they would figure out that you are armed, and would therefore seek an easier target. (I would not count on it, however.)

Does that mean that you consider armed robbery not to be a problem, so long as the victims are illegals, unarmed, or isolated?

it sets up the illegal aliens for exploitation by local or imported criminals and low life business owners who don't pay them because the illegals have no legal recourse against them.

We had a local company that got raided periodically by the INS. It stopped after someone wrote the paper about how the raids always occurred the day before payday.

I didn't feel picked on, I just wanted to make clear that reason was one of many. I shouldn't have bothered, your well written and cogent list indicates that your reading comprehension is excellent as well.
Some other FReepers aren't quite as perceptive. With them you need to spell it all out.

The lowlife owner deserves a point for thinking of that, and about negative ten million points for actually tipping off the INS just before payday.

My reason for considering the ripping off of illegals as a reason to be against illegal immigration came from a former coworker. His previous owner had gotten used to just not paying for that last week of the season, and apparently forgot my coworker was a citizen and could do something about it.

Happily, the business owner's mistake ended up costing him a lot more.

Notice that the lame-stream media doesn't get upset when the taxpayer gets robbed over and over again, paying for medical help, education and the like for illegals.

Not a problem. Bend over suckers.

Make Employers Check Work Eligibility

You can now pressure your local employers to check the eligibility of prospective employees.

Social Security numbers can now be verified by using the following toll free number: 1-800-772-6270. Up to 5 names can be verified over the phone and up to 50 by faxing a inquiry to your local Social Security office. It is all explained in a publication put out by Social Security- " Employer Reporting Instructions & Information. "

I don't want illegal aliens coming here. There are many reasons for that and one of the reasons is that they risk their lives in an unsafe and unpoliced condition. Plus, they never know when they are going to get caught and have to live in fear. People take advantage of them and they would do much better coming to the US legally. All of the unreported abuse permits corruption to grow in the US. I don't think it is moral or loving to the immigrant for people to advocate for illegal entry activity.

Requiring all illegals to have sex with Madeline Albright?

In this example, "Having the sex Americans refuse to have" is probably an accurate statement.
