If you do not understand the political damage this has done to his base, you better go back and read about watergate.

I understand what political damage his hysterical base has done to the President OVER NOTHING.

A frickin' Dem press release. Good grief.

Right here, dude. I'm easy to recognize, because I'm often the only one breathing normally and citing non-blog sources, silly things like that.

Ah, yes, and you're the one comparing a decision to sell off operations at six major ports to a postmaster appointment.

Tell me again why I should take you seriously.

Unbelieveable

If he didn't even know about it why is he so hot to veto any attempt to block it?

I spent time and money working for a Republican candidate afew years back supporting a candidate I felt strongly about. Once in office he turned out to be a stinking RINO and nearly bankrupted the state.

Good for you. I once worked at a snack bar on the beach.

Don't include me in on the "eating our young" syndrome.

I believe we have a problem, letting foreign interests becoming too influential within our Country. I'd like to see changes made which gives the United States more security.

It is a wise person who admits faults and sets about to correct them.

Who in hell is responsible for NOT notifying the president?

Uh, it wasn't required.

Now this is what you call "bad staff work."

If Scott McLellan, Bush's press secretary, is any indicator of the quality of the President's staff ... you can see why Dubya keeps getting blindsided.

The President also admitted that he did not know Lonetta Menefee was promoted to regional manager of the Akron district of the US Post Office, despite the fact that the Postmaster General reports directly to the President!
What is wrong with this administration!

You nailed it!!! You're one of the 2% that get it.

Okay what has been Bush's tone deaf ear towards his base? Border security. Even now our ports are not secure enough. Now he approves and threatens to use Veto power he has not even used against democrats on a issue that pisses off his base to no end? And you call it hysterical?

What this does is eleminates one of the most effetive tools we have against the libs. This compromises our position and either causes his base to split from him or causes us to compromise on our first position.

If you can not see that you dont understand the game we are playing.

DoD is on the committee. Doesn't mean the representative (whomever it may have been) kept Rummy properly informed.

The White House should know that. If, in the midst of a heated issue, the White House states every one of the Cabinet secretaries expressed that they were comfortable with this transaction being approved they should have known that statement was factual. In my view the process was flawed. Perhaps that's a function of legislation formulating the committee which is Congress' domain, perhaps a flaw in it's operation which belongs to the administration. While there may be none, there's clearly the potential for a security risk in this transaction, citizens of the UAE have been active in terror, al Qaida operates there, this should have come to the attention of Defence and the White House. I'll leave the political handling of the issue to speak for itself. At this point GWB should agree to a review and put the issue to bed. To threaten a veto over an issue he admittadly knew little about is ludicrous.

Because the UAE is getting properly steamed thats why. We are going to need the UAE on board for our future adventures in the MIddle East. Esp as to Iran. This is one country that going against the extreme Islamic grain. Also besides that the effect on future free trade agreements and the wto is beyond belief.

The political damage will be if the Pubies kick our WOT allies in the nuts. These are a closest ME allies for heaven's sake!!

Are pubies just blowing smoke out their butts when they say they want to win the hearts and minds of the ME?

This blind prejudice will win the '08 for the Dems for sure if we kill this deal.
