>>Do you know how Sasha did in the short program? She was a favorite of my wife's in the last Olympics.<<
I heard she is first but I can't verify it.
I haven't watch this much TV in ages - the Winter Olympics are great. Unfortunately, I also ended up missing Sasha, something I had looked forward to. I hope there will be a rerun.
I have always loved the Winter Olympics. But I also noticed that Bob Costa has emphasized the negative when there is a great deal of positive to report. Don't give up on the Winter Olympics - next one hopefully will have different announcers.
Yay!
20 more minutes and this embarrassment that is supposedly Team USA Men's Hockey will be OVER!!!
Good Lord Keith Tkachuk SUCKS. I am so glad he's NOT on the Red Wings.
That last goal was very flukey.
But in the end, it's still a goal for Finland.
I wish we were good enough to make a bronze.
It looks more like we will get tin or copper as our medal. Whatever 8th and LAST place gets....
what an embarrassment. Keith Tkachuk is absolutely killing the US today. How many more bad penalties is he going to take?
:((
I had such high hopes after they started scoring against Russia. Finland is a tough team, possibly the best *team* in the tournament, and they know how to trap and clog up the neutral zone to protect a lead.
USA is doing fine against a very tough team. The only surprise was the tie with Latvia.
There's that but this team has more problems than just not scoring.
They're old.
They don't seem to be able to EVER stop an odd-man rush.
Their PK is horrible.
It's too many to list really.
They might as well go with college players. I don't necessarily fault any one player on the team (other than Tkachuk who shouldn't be there in the first place) but they don't have any chemistry and it's obvious.
>>It looks more like we will get tin or copper as our medal. Whatever 8th and LAST place gets....
Flint. Maybe wood.
It's hard to say what the problem is with the US team.
On one hand, we have the largest numbers of medals for an Winter Olympics held outside the US.
OTOH, we seem to have lost so many chances for more medals. This was supposed to be the best US Winter Olympics team ever - at least that was the hype.
I know we've lost some chances to get medals - Bode Miller not included. On the first day of the Olympics, one of our biathletes lost out on a bronze medal because of a split bullet that failed to knock down a target. I could go on and on.
Well against Slovakia and Sweden, I thought we played quite well on defense, but we just couldn't put any shots in the net.
I agree the chemistry just wasn't there except for the Gionta-Gomez combination. The games I saw Modano seemed flumoxed for most of his shifts. And Liles seemed to be a complete non-factor on defense.
Well all the hockey pundits said our goaltending would be our downfall, but again in the games I saw (Latvia, Kaz, Slovkia, Sweden) that was not the case. More like the pinching and slow defense letting 2-1 breaks happen. A short-handed goal means you just aren't working and we had a lot of short-handed goals scored against us.
Lead
LOL
this is honestly not the goaltenders fault (minus the Russian game)....
If you can't score, especially in international competition, you won't win.
The US can't score. That happens when your supposed "big gun" is taking hooking penalties in front of the Finland goal....
I never cared for pros in the Olympics anyways. Olympic Basketball and Hockey have been ruined, IMO.
It shouldn't even be a minor. .....horrible call.
From what I heard, he drew blood on Selanne. That will get 5 every time, right or wrong.
Yes, but it was still so much fun to watch our amateurs try to beat their pros. In today's world, Russia could not keep their best players from going pro, so it would be amateurs against amateurs. Basketball has become a joke. We send over a bunch of ego-maniacs who can't function as a team and utterly embarrass themselves.
What worries me is unlike Team Canada, I can't think of another US forward not on the team who should be out there in place of Tkachuk. Matt Cullen? Not gonna get much done offensively either, but perhaps him and Eric Cole would have had some chemistry since they play together in Carolina.
Miller should have been one of the goalies instead of Esche, but like you said that made no difference in the end.
I dunno, USA Hockey's future doesn't look bright from what I can see.
