I quoted the Constitution and even gave you the link. You figure it out.

Oh, please.

Could you be more specific? Unless you didn't want a response?

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert wrote to President Bush on Tuesday asking for a moratorium on an Arab company's takeover of operations at six major U.S. seaports.

Hastert's just a tool of the democrats, donchaknow?

If you don't have an answer, then just say so.

WHAT RECOURSE DOES CONGRESS HAVE?

An even better scenario. Pearl Harbor is bombed. 5 years later, FDR leases NY harbor and LA to Japanese interests in Okinawa. And Congress is helpless to stop it? I don't think so.

And the hysteria continues...

Not all cargo can be inspected. Only a small sample is.

Hiring the people who unload the cargo could be useful if you are going to smuggle in weapons or terrorists.

I just think it is stupid. We know that our ports are not properly protected now. Even if everything about the UAE company is trustworthy, what if God forbid, a nuke or something gets through. Then everyone will point the finger at Bush--you think there's impeachment talk now...I think Bush needs to shut this thing down. Shut the dems up!

You're a hoot. You haven't a clue but that won't stop you.

Ok. Constitutional lesson.
What does Congress do? Why they pass legislation! (I know some think it's the Supreme Court but that's not correct.)

An analogy is hysteria? Who knew?

Right -- and a bill doesn't become a law until the President signs it, or they override his veto. So let's see them get working on this instead of engaging in all this political posturing.

Your analogy is flawed. Dubai and 1941 Japan are dissimilar.

Dubai and 1941 Japan are dissimilar.

With what I've been reading about Dubai talking out of both sides of their mouth, I disagree.

And you'll notice in my analogy that it was OKINAWA that was buying the port contracts. Japanese interests in OKINAWA and not Japan.

Been down this road just last night. I think I said "They're working on it".

"Pearl Harbor is bombed."

This is your statement. You are attempting to compare 9/11 with 12/7 with regard to Dubai and Japan. I still maintain you have a false analogy.

No Dubai is Okinawa in the analogy.

Pearl Harbor is bombed. 5 years later, FDR leases NY harbor and LA to Japanese interests in Okinawa.

I do not believe we can resolve our disagreement. It would seem prudent to discontinue pursuing this because our arguments will become redundant.

No harm - no foul!

The people loading and unloading the cargo are unionized.

Unions are not my favorite organizations in general, but I don't doubt their power to keep a new employer for replacing their workers with different people.

If terrorists want to get someone working at a dock, they're going to have to have that person apply for the job and join the union. There's really not an advantage to owning the company in getting that done. However there is a huge risk.

If terrorists bring people or weapons into the country it is very likely that our government will trace how those people and weapons got into the country.

The UAE definately would not want things being traced back to them.

The Monarch of the UAE doesn't want to end up dead or deposed and in hiding.

There is also the little matter of the 6.5 billion dollars they are paying for the business operations of these ports.

Unless you think the government there wants to embrace "martyrdom" themselves, they would be very, very stupid to use this company to aid a terrorist attack.
