Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administrations decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.
We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The Presidents leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, lets do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, lets make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.

I'm trying to keep this straight...
Is he talking about the port thing, or the Iranian nuclear power thing?
SO why you do not go and kill the next Arab you meet?!
BS! Article 1 of the Constitution empowers the Congress, the House of Representatives to represent the People!
We, the People, demand an end to this BS! We the People, demand an end to foreign control of our Industries and Ports.
We, the People, demand that our Borders be Secure!
Get it!
If you don't....then to hell with you!
You'd think that all the pertinent facts would have been made available prior to the uproar.
Another huge PR blunder.
And that maxim can be applied across the board when it comes to Muslim-Arab nations, especially those lying in the Persian Gulf, the cradle of medieval, barbaric, antiquated beliefs.
Why are we even considering entrusting our national security to a country that produced two of the ringleaders of the attack that led to nearly 3,000 Americans losing their lives?
That served as a transit point for the smuggling of nuclear weapons material that found its way into the IRI and DPRK?
What possible rationale could there be for this mind-bogglingly shortsighted decision?
What you are thinking about.
We the people don't have any companies in the US that run ports anymore!
"We the people don't have any companies in the US that run ports anymore!"
We, the People, can regulate Commerce. Check the Constitution....
We, the People, need to end tyranny of the Govt!
Open Hearings! Open competition! Then award the contract to Lockheed or Walmart!
Lockeed and Walmart don't want the business, not enough return on investment. That is why the US companies are out of the market.
We can't force them to take it. That would be socialism.
"We can't force them to take it. That would be socialism."
Nonsense. Lockheed et.al. take contracts all the time. They do not lose money. They are (Lockheed, Boeing, Gruman) extensions of the government. Note...Ft. Worth F16 factory making F22s and M1As and everything else.
It is in our interest to Protect Ourselves!
We elect our representatives to do that! They need to do that or be fired!
EOM to Congress!
What part of "they don't want the business" don't you understand?
First of all, this is a state-owned company.
In other words, this has nothing to do with "competition."
The game was rigged from the initial stages of this agreement.
Yet, even if this deal adhered scrupulously to the principles of free trade and robust private enterprise, what difference does it make?
Are you willing to sacrifice the lives of Americans in order to satisfy some distorted conception of capitalism?
This is a back-room deal that the Bush administration is attempting to shove down the throat of the American public.
What is the White House's problem with dissent?
Why can't they just accept that they might just be wrong in this case?
Bottom line, you don't trust Arabs.
Volume 5, Book 59, Number 448: Narrated 'Aisha:
When the Prophet returned from the (battle) of Al-Khandaq (i.e. Trench) and laid down his arms and took a bath Gabriel came to him while he (i.e. Gabriel) was shaking the dust off his head, and said, "You have laid down the arms?" By Allah, I have not laid them down. Go out to them (to attack them)." The Prophet said, "Where?" Gabriel pointed towards Bani Quraiza. So Allah's Apostle went to them (i.e. Banu Quraiza) (i.e. besieged them). They then surrendered to the Prophet's judgment but he directed them to Sad to give his verdict concerning them. Sad said, "I give my judgment that their warriors should be killed, their women and children should be taken as captives, and their properties distributed."
You make some good points...........as far as national security, though, I worry more about the demonrat leadership (the Clintons and their minions), than I do the UAE........
OK, so it isn't racism. It is religious discrimination.
Thanks for your insight. I wish people would just stick to the facts. Instead people are all running around as if their hair was on fire.
But are all Arabs and others from the Middle East terrorists ?
