129 illegals caught near Wellton
FROM STAFF REPORTS Feb 20, 2006, 10:10 pm
A group of 129 illegal aliens were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Wellton station around 11:30 a.m. Monday.
"It is very unusual for us to apprehend a group this size in the Yuma sector," said Michael Gramley, Border Patrol spokesman.
Gramley said a Customs and Border Patrol helicopter was tracking group and caught up with them on the east side of the Gila mountains, about 10 miles Southwest of Wellton.
The pilot of the helicopter radioed ground units from the Wellton station, guiding them to the location of the group, which was traveling on foot.
"This is obviously an organized smuggling attempt," Gramley said. "We are actively investigating in order to identify smugglers in the group."
Gramley said the aliens were transported to the Wellton station where they will be processed.
Not a bad catch. .....although a insignificant fraction of the average number of those who make it successfully across the border every day.
If the so-called 'Guest Worker' plan ever gets going 129 would be small.
Yeah, no kidding. And what, were they all given citations to appear in court and free bus fare to anywhere they want outside of Texas.
I drove through this checkpoint yesterday afternoon....I cant believe how many USBP there were between Yuma and Maricopa....
There was also a chase in Pinal County (Casa Grande) area where 15 people fled when they finally pulled over.
Hope the U.S. Border Patrol agents didn't profile...NOT.
Does any part of the "processing" involve shipping their @sses back South?
If they're all Mexicans, and they don't come up hot after the fingerprint check, then yes, they'll be sent back across the border.
The hot hits will be arraigned for criminal proceedings, and OTMs will be prepared for deportation hearings.
I know that the revolving door for OTMs in Texas has been slammed shut, I don't know how that's working here in Arizona.
Jorge Arbusto is deeply saddened.
I totally agree. What's the over/under on a secure border before November?
And that is why we need an impenetrable barrier on the border.
Makes it fair, because then we keep everybody out!
Fool's bet! It ain't gonna happen.
One of the main problems these illegals cause by crossing in this area, is by crossing through the Barry Goldwater bombing range, they stop all training while the Border Patrol tracks and catches these guys. There was a report a few months ago that stated Marine Corps Air Station Yuma lost over 1500 training hours due to these incursions. Since the Goldwater range is joint use, that doesn't account for lost hours by Luke Air Force Base, or Davis Montham AFB.
Agree with that!
