Give me a break we dont build high tech planes for combating IED's or terrorist. We build these planes to protect the US and our intrest against nations such as China and Russia. Terrorists are not the only enemies of the US. Sorry the liberal mantra doesnt fly with me.

Is this the veritical take off version of the F22?

No. This is smaller like and F-16, with VTOL capablity of the Harrier and with carrier capability. It's projected to replace the F-16s, AV-8s, and older F-18s. I believe the Brits are interested in it also.

These are not slang names.

Eg. the slang name for the F16 is Viper, F18 is Superbug

ACtualy, the F35 being newer has a better radar than the F22, I believe.

I don't believe that the F-35 has been flight tested. Correct me if I'm wrong.
