I was previously hoping pontiac might bring back the Fiero...

GM is clueless. When they dropped the Fiero, Mazda and Honda filled the gap with the Miata and the S2000. GM dropped the Caprice, Ford filled the void with the Crown Victoria. GM dropped the Caddy convertible, and sales dropped like a rock in the Caddy division. GM tried to sell the dopey Caddy Catera made by Opel. Caddy marketed the Cimmaron which was a Chevette with a Caddy hood ornament.

The only GM product I would buy is an H2 or a Corvette.

The Aztek was such a great success...

That, and the Honda element have to be the World's ugliest current production cars.

(Though it technically debuted much earlier, post-Fiero Toyota MR2's beared more than a passing similarity to the Fiero GT)

My main complaint with the Solstice is that it's a front engine.

Then buy a Ferrari, or a Lotus, or...

Ford did the Mustang right. Pontiac produced something they called a GTO, but had no base at all. Doomed to fail from the beginning. Too bad...

A Grand Am with a Corvette engine is all it is.

Actually, if they'd sold it that way it probably would have done well.

"Look like Casper Milquetoast, but drive like Mario Andretti!"

I remember when after market types took the POS Chevy Vega and dropped the big Corvette engine in it (it fit... barely). The smart ones never changed anything about the styling, leaving it as plan and ugly as could be. Then they pulled up to a stop light next to a Porsche... ;^>

GM thinks they can just slap any old nameplate onto a new car and all is well. This new GTO was a collasal joke, it had all the sex appeal of a Saturn.

Yeah but that brings me back to it not being mid engine. :)))

You can get a Fiero GT in near mint condition for 3000 now, and with the 17000 you saved you could make a really amazing ride out of one, certainly comperable to the Solstice.

I wanted to build a computer into one.

The Solstice is probably easier to add a sounsystem to though, and definitly would have better trunk space.

(Now that I think about it you could even do a Solstice body kit for a Fiero...)

Good. It's lame. Yeah, it performs nicely, but it's not much to look at. Came up on one from the back the other day ... thought it was a Sentra.

If they'd done a tie-in with the triple X movies, they'd have sold a lot more. /sarc
