A Washington-D.C.-based civil rights group is blasting HBO sports commentator Bryant Gumbel for complaining last week that the Winter Olympics were too white.

Bryant Gumbel has made a very successful career out of being a token.

There's really nothing good one can say about Bryant Gumbel.
Close your eyes and listen to both Gumbel brothers and you'd guess you would be hearing whitey.

If they are too white, then who's fault is it?
Some commentators said that winter sports are too expensive for poor black teens to participate in. How much more does it cost for a pair of ice skates than it does for a pair of Addidas? It's nonsense.
I'm thinking that the primary reason black teens aren't interested in winter sports is that they view basketball and football as the road to riches, not professional skating.
Of course, Bill Cosby is correct when he says that they should focus on academics anyway, not sports, but I'm not surprised that Bryant Gumble doesn't mention that.

Isn't Bryant being the Ugly American in his view that the Winter Olympics are too White? He has insulted Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, China, S. Korea, Denmark. He didn't say it was the U.S. Olympic team that was too White. he said it was the Winter Olympics. Oh well, we are after all, Ice People.
The best athletes win spots on the olympic teams, color isn't a factor, skill and talent are.
I would point out that one of the few black participants in speed skating refused to participate in the team pursuit and caused the team to be eliminated, because, I quote, "I didn't come here to skate team pursuit!"(In other words he came for himself, to hell with the team and America). I'm just saying.
I wonder how long it will take before he is fired for making this remark? I know, when hell freezes over. If he were a Republican, he would be already gone...
...and I have yet to see ONE Asian acondroplastic dwarf in the ski-jumping competition.

Gumbel is quite an avid golfer and hangs out with a lot of PGA Tour players. Last time I looked, there was a paucity of black players on the tour. So I assume that Gumbel will be giving up participating in PGA pro-am tournaments to protest this inequity.
He can hang with OJ.
Sports is a meritocracy. The NBA may be 90% black but no one doubts the teams chose the best players, the ones that will help them win. Does GumForBrains think the Olympics are rigged against blacks? Does he think there are black downhill skiers who ran faster but were excluded because of their race? Were the "Tuskegee curlers" locked out? Should we force Jerry Rice from the dance floor to the Ice Dancing competition in the name of Affirmative Action?
Gumbel should be fired.
Yes Bryant and the NBA is too black?
There is circumstancial evidence that certain races prefer different seasons or sports. Not saying I agree or disagree, just seems to be the case.
He's made a very sucessful career out of being a pompous ass-hole.
But, snow IS white. Do they think that the atheletes want to perform on YELLOW snow?
