Former President Jimmy Carter downplayed criticism of White House support of an Arab-owned company's purchase of a major seaport-operations firm.

WASHINGTON - President Bush is taking a battering from fellow Republicans, even the governors of New York and Maryland, over the administration's support for a decision that gives an Arab company control of some commercial operations at six major seaports -- including Miami-Dade's.

But he got a boost Monday from an unlikely source, frequent critic and former president Jimmy Carter, who downplayed fears that the deal poses a risk.

''The overall threat to the United States and security, I don't think it exists,'' Carter said on CNN's The Situation Room. ``I'm sure the president's done a good job with his subordinates to make sure this is not a threat.''

I've heard from Moe and Larry, where's Shemp?

I just think it's hilarious that the original post to which you responded wasn't even posted to you. It's like saying under your breathe "amoronsayswhat?"

You said "what" and have kept on going. Priceless.

Since when did Jimmy Carter's opinion become relevant? Or Al Gore's? Neither were worth a damn when they were in office and nobody cared...why does the media believe that we care now? Jimmy Carter was not heard from in the 1980s and 1990s...all of a sudden in the last 3 years this guy is in the papers every single day!

WHO CARES?

The Bot army's war charge is "GOP ALWAYS, GOR FOREVER"

OK, the first one is old news, but I had no idea that the Bots were into kinky bondage fantasies....

I admit it was a little pedestrian and not at all imaginative, I'll try to be better after my next cup of coffee.

If I ever had any doubt about the wisdom of the ports deal, Carter's endoresement has convinced me that it must be even worse than I suspected. He is the award-winner for bad judgment. Therefore, if he's for it, it must be horrible for our country. Among other tragedies, he is responsible for all the evil that has gone on in Iran for the past 25 years, including the current nuclear threat. Thanks President Carter. The world would have been a better place if you had stayed on the peanut farm.

That is the biggest hyperbole ever uttered in any language...EVER. Never before has such a hyperbole been created by the human mind. It shall live forever in the annals of speech history, to serve as a constant benchmark for hyperbole. Hyperbole. Hyperbole. Hyper. Bole.

Go back and restudy your history squid...the Carter and Bush agreement on foreign Islamic powers controlling the future of our ports ranks right up there with Chamberlain's 1938's agreement with Germany on the future of Czechoslovakia's right to rule a small portion of its nation known as the Sudetenland!

Seems like the "Cult of Bush" acolytes and Arch-Mages have some "disdain" for us paleo-Freepers...you know...Conservaives rather than"Compassionate" Party apparachiks and Bushistas and Klintonistas (HArd to tell them apart now that IMPOTUS X-42 is Jorge's new "Brother")!

No actually they're in a temporary retreat until they can get their talking points/spin in synch.

Godwin's Law (also Godwin's Rule of Nazi analogies) is an adage in Internet culture that was originated by Mike Godwin in 1990. The law states that:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.

Although the law does not specifically mention it, there is a tradition in many Usenet newsgroups that once such a comparison is made, the thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress.

I don't agree with you. The situations are not analogous in the least. And I think the whole Bush = Hitler/his supporters = Nazis has been done to death. You may have a valid point about the imprudence of outsourcing control of ports to a foreign nation, especially one from a hostile region, but you do yourself a disservice by couching things in terms such as you have.

Will the Bush-bots line up with Carter on this one, or is there a limit to their sycophancy?

Take your "Bushbot" insult and put it where the sun don't shine.

(1) I am a supporter of the President.

(2) I do not -- repeat -- do not support this port deal.

(3) It is entirely possible to be a supporter of GWB and to disagree with this or other administration policies.
