A large and unusually bold hare was apparently so irritated when a dogsled team entered its territory that it went on the attack, in an otherwise peaceful forested area of northern Norway. Dogs are better known for chasing hares. It was the other way around in northern Norway last weekend.
Wenche Offerdal, who was driving the dogsled team in the Reisadalen area of Troms County, had never seen anything like it.
She told newspaper Nordlys that she and her team of huskies met the hare while travelling between Saraelv and Seima Saturday evening. The hare appeared fully grown and quite aggressive.
"It was sitting 10 meters from the trail and I figured it would run off, and even that the dogs would go after it," Offerdal said. "I was wrong."
Instead, the hare came running towards the dogsled team, which came to a halt. Then the fearless hare jumped right into the middle of team.
That prompted the lead dog to turn around, which left the hare surrounded by the huskies. The hare's odds worsened when another dogsled came up behind Offerdal's. That left one hare facing 13 dogs.
"It was an absurd situation," Offerdal told Nordlys. "The dogs were completely perplexed. The hare stared at them and they stared back, like they were all frozen."
Suddenly the hare seemed to reconsider its position, and leaped out of the ring, hitting a few of the dogs over their noses with its paws on its way.
"It was an enormous leap, the hare landed outside the ring of dogs and ran off into the woods," Offerdal said.
They should talk to Jimmy Carter about how to deal with a rabbit attack.
Why? Did the hare have lust in its heart?
I think we should all take notice and care not to publish any unseemly hare cartoons. God knows what could happen if the hares of the world unite in a violent gasp of anti-western hatred.
Attack of the were rabbit.
Nothing new, out west jackrabbits attack cars and trucks all the time.
True, they always lose, but keep on coming.
Forgot to mention:
This is the actual "rabbit attack"
the Curse of Jimmy Carter.
Predators behavior is often triggered by the actions of the prey animals, and anything that deviates from the norm often causes a strange response. Scientists have discovered that the wolves hunting pattern.."coursing" is switched on by the prey running. There is a very well known film sequence, showing wolves chasing a moose...after a while, the moose, exhausted, collapses on a river bank..the wolves, a pack of 5 or so.. come up along side it...seem confused, sat down next to it, and waited..after about an hour, the moose recovered, got up, tooka few strides, then the wolves caught and killed it..
You don't have to tell me.
I have a pack of Ibizan Hounds, of which rabbits are but one of their usual prey items.
I also have pet rabbits.
The first time the hounds charged at the rabbit pens, the biggest doe reared up on her hind legs and charged back, -growling-.
All four dogs skidded to a confused halt.
*This* wasn't in the official hound/rabbit playback and it threw them all for a loop.
The wild bunnies who help themselves to my bird seed act "normal" and get chased out of the yard nightly.
[they're playing fair]....;)
My 3 Talouse geese also taught the dogs a valuable lesson about barnyard fowls vs. fair game birds.
Cartoon rabbit jihad spreads; hares burn canine flag, shout "death to wolves".
It's got a mean streak a MILE WIDE!!!
You have posted a graven image of a Hare, CBUH (Carrots be upon him). For this, a fatwah shall be issued. Expect to find flaming bags of bunny pellets on your front door step.
