You are correct in that most people probably would not have a problem with abortion as birth control were limited. But even if it were limited to those few cases, who decides if a woman meets the criteria? If it were up to the doctor, how often would the doctor wink and say her life was in danger? I am one of those who believe that if all the time and energy spent on trying to outlaw abortion were spent on educating on exactly what happens in an abortion and the options other than abortion, the same goal of dramatically lowering them would be acheived.
You don't understand the pro life movement at all. We have set up clinics all across this land funded by individuals to stem the tide of abortion. The killing continues unabated.
We wouldn't have to outlaw abortion to lower the numbers, as people would willingly do so. And isn't it better to convince people of the truth than to force the truth on them and tell them to like it and shut up already?
We've been doing it backwards, as Peggy Noonan, back when she had her head on straight, used to say--we should educate first, then the laws would change because as a nation BELIEVE abortion should end.
