Making Islam illegal -- is it the West's only choice?

The threat of of radical Islam may turn out to be the toughest challenge ever faced by the west, dwarfing even the 20th Century threats of marxism and nazism.

We place such a high value on freedom of thought and belief that we are reluctant to impose restrictions on anyone in the practice of religion, even when those religions prod their adherents to deny others of their own right to believe or to not believe.

Couple Islamic zeal in the pursuit of subjugating the world for Allah with the exceptionally high birth rates of Muslims and you get a worldwide disaster in the making. The fact that most Muslims never take up a cudgel against the infidel does not diminish the threat. Even if the silent Muslim majority does nothing more than aggressively increase the population of Muslims in the western countries where they live, their sheer numbers bolster the strength and bargaining position of the radical Muslims who are only too keen to seize leadership roles.

This is serious problem, and it needs to be looked at that way.

Along that line, whether islam is outlawed or not, or whether is koran is banned (or whether the parts of the koran which call for violence are deleted)...islam at the very least needs to be subjected to the full force of freedom of speech. The truth about islam needs to see the light of day and muslims need to feel free to leave that "religion" without fear of bodily harm.

Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party contained all these elements to an extent. If I am not mistaken Hitler espoused and did try to link Christianity with his party activities of eliminating Jews. He saw it as his destiny. If he had achieve victory and had time to write, and he did write...he very well could have tried to create a heretical version of Christianity....Just as mohammad did for the koran.

One of the only major differences I see between islam and nazism is that the latter had two orders of magnitude less time to develop than did the former. When the so called 'religion' is authored by a racist, pedophile and murderer and is rotten to the core in that a significant chunk of it's adherence sympathizes with terrorism, I wonder how on earth you call it a religion.

Technically speaking I guess you could...but don't leave out voodoo, satanism, cannibalism, the cults that sacrifice children and virgins. A civilized society can not tolerate the actions of these groups very long - chows erupts. Unfortunately we have lost our ability to discern between those things that are detrimental to our society and those that are beneficial...and have entered into a state of paralysis - everything is acceptable for some - there is no absolute truth. I think the founding fathers would be very disappointed to know that some people can't differentiate between religion and organized crime (be it political, materialistic, sexual or racial crime).

First, if your actions are as bold as your words, then you are in a honorable minority. Under normal circumstances I would say I admire your position and back you 100%.

Your position for a islamic is misplaced I would argue. Their very religion calls for your and your family's conversion or death....that much is clear from their 'holy' book and history. You have absolutely NO idea what is the heart of your neighbor. Absolutely none. History, their scripture and polls show the majority of religious and moderate muslimes would rather see your blood run in the gutter and piss on it that to have their society dominated by yours. Fight for them if you will, but chances are, unless they are non-practising, heretical muslimes, they will be more than happy to literally stab you in the back.

Thanks, Freddie. I think the apologists for muslims don't realize that many here see muslims as the first victims of islam.

I suggest the first line of defense is the vigorous use of free speech to expose islam for the cult it is. Then, if that fails, we come up with a plan B. Sounds like the "Wily Coyote" strategy...too bad the enemy is more deadly than a road runner.
