You are exactly correct. Washington was a great leader, but he was at best a mediocre tactician and military strategist. He lacked much in the way of military ability, but he had the greater ability to lead men.
My post should have been more specific along those lines.

Washington's birthday is federal law, presidents' day is not.

"Washington was a great leader, but he was at best a mediocre tactician and military strategist." Lt. Gen. Dave Palmer, former supt. of West Point, does not agree with you. He said if Washington had done nothing more than carrying out the battles of Trenton and Princeton he would still go down in history as a great military strategist.
Who else would have thought of attacking the morning after Christmas when everybody was sleeping late? Hadn't ever been done before. And crossing the ice-choked Delaware River with 2000 men was a marvel of planning ahead (he sent his soldiers out a couple of weeks beforehand to gather up all the boats on BOTH sides of the river, insuring that the British couldn't cross over and surprise him).

The media calls it "President's Day", but the holiday established by Congress (on the books) is still Washington's Birthday.

That's your dot-gov site authority.
There is no "President's Day".

My error - he crossed the Delaware with 5400 troops.
