The lead singer of the 1960s family band The Cowsills has died _ and his family learned it just after a memorial service for his brother.
According to family members, William Cowsill died Friday in Canada. He had been suffering from emphysema, osteoporosis and other ailments. He was 58 years old.
Cowsill was the frontman for the band bearing his family's name. The Newport group was discovered by an N-B-C producer in 1965. Soon after, they recorded three number-one hits including "Hair," "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" and "Indian Lake."
News of his death came just after a memorial ceremony honoring William Cowsill's younger brother, Barry. Barry Cowsill drowned after Hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans.
this family has had a terrible start to the new year
They sure have. At first I thought your article was going to be another one about Barry.
There must be 5 people who care
The Rain, The Park, and Other Things bump.
Well, they didn't have the greatest influence on music during the late/mid 60's, BUT, "The Rain, Park, & Other Things" just holds a special part of my memory. 1967 was a happy time for me anbd when I think of those days, I'm reminded of that song.
btw, they made the Top 100 8 times in a 2 year period-not bad.
I actually love singing along with that song just because it's so...so...HAPPY. Sappy, but happy. :o)
The Cowsill family certainly has had their share of grief this year.
Luved that song!...LOL...the first time I heard it I was in the back seat of.....Oh..never mind!
Back in the mid 90's our whole family was amused when a postcard addressed to her via her maiden name arrived at her father's house - it was an acknowledgment she'd joined the fan club, and was about 30 years late.
I have not heard of them, but then again - I am under 60 :)
I am well under 60, but I remember them! Very sad that people die in their 50's from disease; it seems like a young age to pass away.
Good morning, Mr/Miss Sunshine...
I hadn't known their mom Barbara had died 1985, also from emphysema
Didn't one of the Cowsills die in Vietnam? I vaguely remember them coming to Ft. Gordon, GA for a concert back when I was doing AIT there in 1969. It wasnt so much a concert tour as it was to join up with the son who was also stationed there and do a free concert.
Trust me, I'm not one of them.
You make stupid comments.
That's just mean.

Yeah, that's who I thought of right away when I saw the Cowsills mentioned on a thread -- the Osmonds.
