The UN continues to push for control of the Internet. With 57 nations moose controlled, imagine what would happen.

I could foresee an "Intranet" rising out of this
if the UN ever takes charge of the Internet. I
simply can't see how we could permit a UN
takeover of the Internet.

"Today in our modern society, many of us sit at our computer for hours on end sending e-mails, corresponding, web surfing, researching, subscribing to web sites, gaining information, booking hotels and airline reservations, buying gifts, even creating personal web sites – or blogs – where any average citizen can vent on the political issues of the day and send it to the world."

...and, let's face it, looking for porn.

The American people simply have no idea what it’s like to live in a totalitarian society.

Go take a look at DU. Those idiots are convinced that we're already there under Bush, and only paper ballots and a massive turnout by their imaginary Democratic majority will turn it around. Otherwise, they're going to war. I'm serious. Go take a look (you might want to brace up with a Scotch or two before you do).

We go where we want; watch movies and television shows or any kind; start new businesses on a whim; shop in huge supermarkets that carry any item imaginable; even sit in public places and say anything we want about political leaders.

Try telling that to the moonbats, that think living under the rule of President Bush is like living in Nazi Germany.

The internet is great, it even allows poorly written articles to be disseminated. Seriously though, taking control of IP numbers and domain names will not end free speech on the internet, but it would result in new taxes and bureaucracy. I am somewhat familiar with the regulatory side of the U.N. and they are the most incompetent and technologically illiterate folks imaginable.

" The assault on ICANN was fierce at the Tunis meeting, but the Bush Administration thought it was able to argue its way out -- for the time being keeping ICANN in control. However, the Administration made a fatal error when it agreed to let the UN create a permanent standing body called the “Internet Governance Forum” (IGF), which intends to keep up a long-term campaign to finally achieve UN control over the Internet."

Why would the Bush Administration have agreed to any type of control for the UN???? See the "Internet Governance Forum" above. Looks like the UN got their greedy, controlling foot in the door.

The author is sadly mistaken to use George Bush as a potential freedom grabber.

The only party that would pull the plug on the internet is the Democratic party.
