Matthews Insists Guest Agree this the Beginning of a "Big, Bad Year for Bush"

February 17, 2006

It wasn't enough for Chris Matthews to analogize the Bush administration to a family of Mafia killers. He had to call President Bush "Fredo," the weak brother. Matthews' theory was that Bush was unable to control Cheney's handling of the shooting incident in a manner similar to which Fredo was unable to control his wife.

As he amply demonstrated at his press conference today, Harry Whittington is not on life support, but Matthews was working as feverishly as an EMS on a heart attack victim to keep the Cheney story alive. And in doing so, Matthews managed to be ungracious to perhaps the most gracious man in America, the very same Harry Whittington himself. Said a sneering Matthews:

"They dressed up Mr. Whittington rather well with a lot of make-up he looked great, I'm glad he's back, but he walked right back into the hospital again. What was that? "

Chimed in a 'helpful' Margaret Carlson: "I think he had his PJs on underneath."

Matthews stuck his dagger a little deeper: "He reminded me of Chernenko [the moribund Soviet leader] voting a couple years ago in Russia when the guy goes into a room next door, they made it look like a voting station, and the guy goes right back to bed."

So intent was Matthews on spinning current events into an omen of an impending annus horribilus for President Bush that he wouldn't take 'no' for an answer from his other guest, Mike Allen of Time magazine.

Matthews tried painted a grim picture: "This sixth year [historically for presidents] is the real sixth year problem and here we have it being kicked off with gunfire, the Vice President shoots someone, by accident, and with lots of questions lingering about it. Is this the beginning of the big, bad year for Bush?"

When Allen answered "not necessarily," Matthews cut him off: "don't say that. Help me out here!"

In a conversation with a lefty, I said that quail hunting accidents like this one are very common and the media response was "much ado about nothing". He is convinced that the accident was staged to divert the media from really bad news like the war we are losing, the environment that is going down the tubes, gas prices are going to break us, the economy is busted, etc. etc. I am so glad I am not a liberal, they are just pathetic.

Somewhere in North Dakota, there is a middle school basketball game with more viewers than "Slimeball."

Oh...okay, now you jogged my horrible memory...thanks!!

Yes, I think I even went to DUmmieland to bask in the torching he was taking...LOL

I don't know if you saw him a week or so ago, when he had on Torie Clark....but, for me, it was the WORST of an already horrible acting Chrissy Matthews..

and I have nothing but contempt for him.

Unfortunately, I am a fan of Tony Snow...and I think I heard Tony say that Chrissy is a friend of his...yuck!

I try never to watch Chrissie. He gets on my nerves. No one on his show can get two words out without him talking over them.

He must have been either sober or off his meds when he stuck up for Alito. Not his real nature at all.

If you ever listen to Randi Rhodes or Mike Malloy on AirAmerika...you will hear conspiracy theories that will have you wondering if you have truly entered the twilight zone..

I am amazed at some of the things they say...but, then they have callers that call and cheer them on..and agree with them.

Don't those people have anything better to talk about?

This story combines a number of the media's favorite boogeymen: republicans, Texans and guns. No wonder they are obsessing over it.

Isn't it an experience? I know we have discussed it before Tx, but it has been crazier than ever lately. Her latest theory on Rove. masterminding Hackett's withdrawal from the Senate race was so priceless I was actually LOL. It's like going past a car accident. You know it will be bad but you have to look anyway.

It must really stink when two people watch Chrissie's show every time it comes on. Does there really need to be a post about every wishful idea this spittle spewer expresses?

I can't even watch for the pleasure of laughing at that frothing, spitting lunatic. My cable company does not carry MSNBC....Can you believe that?
Obviously I am thankful for the little things. I only hear about the big headed Charlie Brown look-a-like here which is perfect.
He will be cancelled this year.

I suppose not, but I found his fulminations tonight so over-the-top as to be entertaining and hence post-worthy.

That dead guy Bob Scheiffer said this story still has legs.

Guess the media has it's talking points and will continue their lemming like leap off the cliff.

A terrible accident like this is not something to be stage managed or spun.

It's not to be exploited.

It's to be prayed about. Something the inside the beltway crowd has not figured out about this administration.

THEY DO NOT PLAY GAMES.

Interesting. I find Shep very literally unwatchable, but Carl is fine in my book. What bugs you about Cameron?

Does your lefty friend also think OJ was innocent because it was OJ's son who killed Nicole and Ron?
