Depicting Jews as whatever is NOT equivalent to depicting prophet of Islam in insulting manner.

Muslims are portrayed as imbeciles commonly in Western Media and that did not lead to all the protests.

The difference is that this time their prophet is dragged in insult game.

Are Jesus or Moses depicted in an insulting manner in Islamic world? No one has presented any evidence of that. If that was the case, then two would be equal.

It is OK unfortunately for our media to make fun of Jesus and except for few complains here and there, no one cares. Now if the same treatment is extended to other religion's holy figures, there reaction is not going to be same because they infact treat their holy figures as holy.

if Mr. Clinton's description was merely excessive, the remarks of former Vice President (and former Democratic presidential nominee) Al Gore to the Jiddah Economic Forum on Sunday go far beyond any mere verbal stumbling or understandable desire to ingratiate himself with his hosts.

Mr. Gore told a mainly Saudi audience Sunday that the U.S. government committed "terrible abuses" against Arabs after the Sept. 11 attacks.

This goes beyond being politically unwise. It is bizarre.

In an Arab world where torture, beheadings and the cutting off of hands are considered normal sanctions not just for real felonies but also for "heresy" and other thought crimes, what on earth must Mr. Gore's listeners have imagined he meant by "terrible abuses"?

What must an audience familiar with prison conditions in Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia picture when Mr. Gore speaks of "unforgivable" conditions?

One doubts they were picturing a warm dry cot, indoor plumbing and three square meals a day while an illegal immigrant who had knowingly outstayed his visa waited for a scheduled court hearing.

>> Muslims are portrayed as imbeciles commonly in Western Media <<

In what fantasy parallel universe do you live in? Name one single instance of a network TV show doing that. One. Years after 9-11, Darfur, Somailia, the US Cole, all terrorists have to be Western Capitalists or Christians on all network shows.

The only TV shows which make Muslims like idiots are the news shows, which, with much reluctance, simply have to show a smidgeon of the bloodshed and horror that Muslims all around the world commit. And then the news shows still weep for houq abused the poor muslims are, and how if we'd only let them extermiinate the Jooz and take over our governments, they wouldn't have to resort to such tactics.

I believe that in verse 4:140, the Quran recommends to passively protest those who indulge in mockery of the muslim faith by leaving their presence. Additionally, the Quran considers Jesus and Moses as "selected messengers and prophets of God" and it asks muslims not to discriminate among the messengers (Quran verse 2:136).

Yet, in reality, when similar criticism or insults are directed at Jesus or Moses these "holy warriors" have no reaction! The Taliban destroyed religous sculptures in Afghanistan and muslims masses around the world remained silent ~ except, of course, for those who publicly celebrated the news.

As I understand it, according to the Quran, only the "depiction" of God is blasphemous ~ since God does not look like anything His creatures can imagine and the Quran never approves the suppression of false and disrespectful religious or nonreligious opinions. Rather, it recommends muslims not cut their relationship with transgressors ~ it calls for them to turn back in peace and continue a dialogue when the transgressor ... to engage in a rational discourse.

When examined, the "outrage" over the danish cartoons is outrageously hypocritical!! How does a believer in the Quran, a follower of Muhammad, justify reacting to disparaging cartoons in a manner that directly contradicts the advise of the very book in which he professes to believe? The "teachings" of Islam are not being represented and defended by people who do not respect the message of the Quran. (Sura An-Nisaa verses 4:136,4:150 - 4:151)
