If you're currently pondering what to settle on as your major--or even if you're just curious what tomorrow's job applicants are majoring in today--here's a top 10 list for you. Not that this should sway you. In fact, the popularity of majors has little to do with actual demand for related fields in the workplace. Nonetheless, here we've included the ten most popular majors. 1) Psychology.....snip.... 2) English. ......snip.... 3) Mathematics. ..... If courses in Abstract Algebra, Complex Variables, History of Math, Number Theory, and Vector Analysis appeal to you, you and your amazing brain will feel right at home. 4) Business Administration and Management. 5) Biology. 6) Chemistry. 7) History. 8) Political Science. 9) Accounting. 10) Sociology.

Math the #3 major in America. That would take care of our lag in science in technology w/o $billions of Federal Waste. This is good news!!

they must have broken engineering down into sub categories or surely it would be top ten.

Don't forget Sociology at #10, or as I like to refer to it, the degree to get another degree.

Psychology and english? That is NOT what we need the most of... Many pre-law students major in English.
To: .cnI redruM
The vast majority of English graduates spend their lives doing something other than what they were trained for (literary analysis and teaching literature). I know many recent English PhDs who are teaching part-time in schools and colleges just to get by.
Why on earth would anybody want to study English?????

Sales & marketing companies key on ex-teachers. If you can lead a class of 5th graders, you can usually sell.

It is a mistake to end your sentence with a preposition.

Now you know why companies are outsourcing to China and India....lots of engineering jobs; too few qualified people to apply for them.

I knew a pre-med student who double-majored in English and music. I knew a pre-law student who majored in geology. I knew another pre-law student who majored in psychology.
I majored in French, and then got an MBA and an MLS.

And interestingly enough, many of the best law students have a background in science.

It seems to me that Engineer would be a better major than pure math. It is far more applicable. What careers do math majors end up in?
