New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has put in for a Purple Heart - and she received the decoration yesterday.
The former first lady garnered the award without being wounded in combat - or sustaining any kind of injury at all - as is usually the case with Purple Heart recipients.
Neither has Clinton ever served in the military, though she once claimed in a TV interview she tried to join the Marines.
Instead, Mrs. Clinton received a symbolic award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart "in recognition of her inspirational leadership and dedicated service to Americas military service members and Americas veterans."
"I am honored to receive the Inspirational Leadership Award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hillary said, in a statement posted to her web site announcing the award.
"The Purple Heart medal symbolizes service and sacrifice to our nation. I consider it a privilege and duty to work on behalf of combat wounded active duty servicemembers and veterans and I will continue to make them one of my top priorities."
The former first lady's web site also noted that "Senator Clinton has been an unwavering champion in the fight to recognize the heroism of those who have received the Purple Heart" by co-sponsoring legislation for a Purple Heart commemorative stamp.
Clinton's statement went on to explain:
"The Order of the Purple Heart for Military Merit, commonly known as the Purple Heart, is the oldest military decoration in the world in present use. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the Armed Forces who are wounded in conflict with an enemy force, or while held by an enemy force as a prisoner of war, and posthumously to the next of kin of members of the Armed Forces who are killed in conflict with an enemy force, or who die of a wound received in conflict with an enemy force."
In a 1994 interview with ABC News, Mrs. Clinton recounted her efforts to join the Marines when she was 27-years-old.
"Gee, now it was probably 19 years ago - in 1975," Hillary said at the time. "I decided that I was very interested in having some experience in serving in some capacity in the military."
She remembered telling the recruiter, "I wanted to explore - I didn't know whether I thought active duty would be a good idea, reserve, you know, maybe National Guard, something along those lines."
But leatherneck Hillary's bid to enlist soon crashed and burned, when the Marine recruiter told her: "You're too old."
"Maybe the dogs [Army] would take you," he offered.
"Stories a lie ? She did or didn't get this "award" !??!?!
"
She got an award. She did NOT get a Purple Heart.
no I just wanted to get this cleared up
Thank you
Kerry: I've got THREE purple Hearts
Clinton: Well I've got one and I didn't even get shot!
McCain: Can I get another one?
She was not awarded
"The Order of the Purple Heart for Military Merit"
Instead, she "got" the
"Inspirational Leadership Award" from the Military Order of the Purple Heart
Big difference... but too difficult for News Max to grab.
I just know no better way of contacting an Admin Moderator. I agree with that as well. Some sorta tag needs to be given to them until they rise back up to a level above National Enquirer.
I believe he is correct.
Hillary is spoouting a lie, a bogus award that is not the real thing, hoping to get some milage out of it from the uninformed. Sounds like NewsMax may be doing the same the other way.
The story title was changed at the source and updated accordingly. Following our posting rules, we use published titles. If you want them to change, I suggest contacting the poster of this thread.
Give HRC's staff a little credit on this one, tho. Even her website has a better headline than NewsMax:
"Senator Clinton Receives Military Order of the Purple Heart Inspirational Leadership Award"
http://clinton.senate.gov/news/statements/details.cfm?id=251629&&
I will do so. Thanks for clarification! May we at least get some tag or something? ;-)
Did she include in her statement how much she hates the military and tried to get it so that military uniforms would not be worn inside the white house?
I'm glad they changed the title. This thread probably had something to do with that. I still believe that NewsMax stories are better placed in Bloggers/Personal. Misleading headlines are a commonplace there.
That, of course, is not my decision...so, now that they've changed the title, I will shut up.
Thanks, AM.....this incident may encourage the folks at NewsMax to be honest in the future.
Thank God I don't have one now and I pray for my brothers and sisters who unfortunately had to bleed to get a Purple Heart. Whomever is in charge of the organization should be run out under a torch.
Shameful!
I knew that I was talking of the award mentioned.....thanks !
I knew that I was talking of the award mentioned.....thanks !
They've changed the headline over at NewsMax. They didn't change the lead paragraph, though, which reads:
"New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has put in for a Purple Heart - and she received the decoration yesterday. "
Feh!
Relax, FRiend....the story is fabrication by NewsMax. In other words, HRC did not receive the Purple Heart. NewsMax lied in order to make it appear that she did.
