I have been to Mt. Vernon a couple of times. Last time, it was on President's Day weekend, and it was mobbed. I live close enough to be able to drop by from time to time.
It's a fascinating place to visit, and it is at it's best in the springtime.

And there's nothing dry, stuffy or boring about George Washington, at all!

Welcome aboard. :-)

FYI fellow Newbies just puting Associated Press for the source like I did isn't specific enough. Thanks again Moderator for puting Forbs in as the source...I didn't see that. I got the article from Top Stories From my ISP's Home Page and all they had was all I copied to post here for folks.

Both figures were painted in lifelike flesh tones, and a hint of dark stubble suggested the general hadn't shaved before reviewing his troops at Valley Forge that morning.

It was common in Washington's time for gentlemen to shave only once a week. Shaving was an arduous task with a straight razor, cold water, and lye soap.

If I remember correctly (and I think I do), Madame Troussaeu had a wax figure of George in her Museum in London in 1977. As I remember, he visited her, personally, to be “fitted.” She matched eye color, measured him, made a mask to use as a model, etc.

His is the most memorable to me; so if he’s not there, I’ve REALLY lost my mind.

I read about George Washington as a young girl. I had such a crush on him. YES! A crush! Still do. He is my ‘dead boyfriend.’ My ideal historical figure to get fangirly over...

Madame Trousseau's in London has a statue of George Washington...they told us that George visited so that Madame could measure him and match his eye color, etc. THAT was the most exciting part of the tour!! I LOVED THAT!!!
