That Russian pairs skater is part of the pair that won the gold medal for pairs the other night. I don't think she's his girlfriend, though. I think they're just friends (?)

I agree. I am from the era that remembers people like Eddie the Eagle.
I liked the amateur aspect, which is mostly missing now. And a lot of the American athletes have bad attitudes.
BUT, I still like to watch, even though I don't have as great a connection to the athletes. I am always amazed at figure skating, because I can barely stand up on skates, let alone do triple jumps!
