PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Democratic Senate candidate Carl Sheeler is asking the General Assembly to start impeachment proceedings against President Bush.
Sheeler says the president lied about his reasons for wanting to go war in Iraq and wiretapping. He says Bush's administration also lied about what it knew about the levees breaking in New Orleans. Sheeler issued his call yesterday at the Statehouse. He says the General Assembly should send a joint resolution to Congress to start impeachment hearings.
He also wants Representatives Jim Langevin and Patrick Kennedy to support a Michigan Congressman's call for an impeachment investigation. Sheeler is one of three Democrats running for the Senate seat held by Republican Lincoln Chafee.

Now, the story is true, but I just had to put flag it as humor because it's so funny.
He wants the Rhode Island General Assembly to impeach President Bush.

I assumed at first he was talking to the UN General Assembly, which most dems seem to think is the ultimate authority of power on Earth.

What a child. Seriously, this person is supposed to be an adult? Jeez, Democrats are fraking lunatics. The more I see, the more I become convinced that Liberalism REALLY IS a mental disorder.

Hahahaha, sorry mate but the Rhodes Island assembly has no powers over the US federal government. You might just as well ask the assembly to impreach Helen Clark (Prime Minister of New Zealand) or Steve Bracks (Premier of Victoria in Australia).

I guess Sheeler didn't watch the news this morning with the tapes of Sadaam.

This story is a definitive INDICTMENT against PUBLIC EDUCATION. A man running for the US Senate thinks a state assembly can impeach the POTUS.

Something has got to be wrong here - nobody is THAT stupid - to try to have the president impeached by a body with no power to impeach him - maybe it's just a request to the congress or something.

From DUmmyland:
2. It's one of the ways to initiate impeachment proceedings, actually
A state legislature can initiate impeachment proceedings against the President (of the US) by transmitting charges to the US House in a joint resolution (the article cites Section 603 of the United States House Rules).
Presumably, it's a way of forcing the House to act on it, one way or another.

Ok the first part of that news story is hopelessly badly written. Here is what is says later.
"He says the General Assembly should send a joint resolution to Congress to start impeachment hearings."

Hattip to the DUmmies for the article. One of the quotes goes like this "A state legislature can initiate impeachment proceedings against the President (of the US) by transmitting charges to the US House in a joint resolution (the article cites Section 603 of the United States House Rules). Presumably, it's a way of forcing the House to act on it, one way or another." Is this correct? I consider myself educated but I have never heard of a State starting impeachment proceedings against the Pres of US? Anyone else know?
