Vastly different pictures emerged today of a man charged with attending an al-Qaida camp in Pakistan, with government attorneys portraying Hamid Hayat as a trained terrorist intent on attacking Americans while his defense described him as a directionless young man prone to wild storytelling. Prosecutors said they will show the 23-year-old Lodi man traveled to Pakistan in 2003 and 2004 to train at the camp. They also said he was awaiting information about potential targets after he returned to his family's home in the heart of California's farming region. "Hamid Hayat talked about jihad before he even left the United States. He talked about acts of violence, he talked about training camps. He received weapons training while he was there," Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Ferris said in opening statements, referring to the Arabic word for "holy war." "He admitted he went to a jihadist training camp, not once but twice. ... He returned to the United States to commit jihad, and he was waiting for orders."

He faces up to 39yrs in prison.Hope he gets the max.""
Why doesn't that read 399 years instead?
399 years would cost too much.
a 39 cent .45 hollow point much more efficient.
Agree.
When you don't take out the trash for 30 years you have to make a lot of trips.
Death row ( for instance ) needs to be a lot shorter.
no pic of Hamid Hayat ??
"why not 399 yrs instead?"Because we're to soft on these terrorist "wanna be's".Take John Walker Lindh(sp?)for example. In some countries he would have been "agressively" interrogated for info, and then taken out and shot.Anyways, thirtynine yrs should be enough time to "cool"this guys ambitions. That's assuming he does anywhere near the full term.
This scum should have tried via Military Tribunal and shot long ago.
LOL.Just think of the savings. One of the downsides of a prison sentence is the taxpayers(us!)will be supporting this cretin. What is it,$20K per year?
