Hit Refresh? Why Bush may be thinking about replacing Cheney. Thursday, February 16, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST The Dick Cheney shooting incident will, in a way, go away. And, in a way, not--ever. Some things stick. Gerry Ford had physically stumbled only once or twice in public when he became, officially, The Stumbler. Mr. Ford's stumbles seemed to underscore a certain lack of sure-footedness in his early policies and other decisions. The same with Jimmy Carter and the Killer Rabbit.

Peggy has spent the past two years damning Bush with faint praise. I have paid attention to her writings, and they have become increasingly acid when it comes to the Bush Administration. I don't pretend to understand why she is doing this, but it is obvious as hell to a lot of us.
Well, I am loyal to the President, and I will defend him from attack from all quarters, whether it is Maureen Dowd or Peggy Noonan.
You can remain loyal to Peggy. You are going to finally realize you are mistaken one of these days.
I have no idea what will help her, now. She's completely gone over the cliff.
Oh, that's good! LOL
Yes, I have been; thanks for noticing. :-)
Peggy's deep thoughts give me a headache.
Well, I am rather blunt...LOL
LOL
Oh yes, it IS the attention, that she craves. The more she trashes the president and his administration, the more the left loves her. But, even the lefties are ignoring her now. So, in order to get the spotlight, she's been writing more and more trash. AFAIK, not even MSNBC has asked her on lately, though.
Breathing in the peroxide fumes and worse.
Thank GOD, someone else feels the same way and has picked up on her "act". THANKS!
bttt
Peggy has been trashing President Bush ( forget "helpful" criticism !) since his first Inaugural Address and lately, has gone over the edge, writing sugar coated, hyperbolic, nasty as sin screeds against him and all of the members of his administration.
He used my statement to totally refute her column, saying that one thing President Bush is about is LOYALTY.
Anyway, I hope she heard me!!
During all this hubbub, I have almost been amused at the thought that the very loyal President Bush would dump VP Cheney because of a HUNTING ACCIDENT!
It's far more likely that he will stand behind him as never before. If you read or heard his statements about the vice president yesterday, you could hear his concern and support for a man he trusts, admires, and cares very deeply about.
Wonder if Peggy will write a retraction? /sarc.
I have read Noonan's work with enjoyment in the past, but recently (say the last 2 years or so) I have noticed an unpleasant undercurrent to her writing.
It's not "constructive criticism" as you put it - it's a low-level nasty reflexive sniping at the current administration. And there's a whining or schoolgirl backbiting tone to it that I definitely don't care for.
With each article it seems to come more out into the open, and this essay on Cheney is another example. She claims to be offering suggestions, but they are always negative and always nasty. (The "pull" comment was right out.)
I don't carry any brief for Bush - there are plenty of matters that I disagree with him on. But I also don't carry a brief for Noonan, and I see a distinct change in her writing and her attitude. It's not good for her, and I doubt more and more that her motive is really to help this administration (or the conservative cause.)
Peggy Noonan must be furious today after the Harry Whittington press statement. She is totally discredited now.
He was...back on Sept. 12, 2001 when he was sent to that undisclosed location, only we never noticed it 'cause the eeeeeeevil GWB and KR were busy taking over the world.
You give Ms. Noonan entirely too much credit. Entirely too much.
