Hit Refresh? Why Bush may be thinking about replacing Cheney. Thursday, February 16, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST The Dick Cheney shooting incident will, in a way, go away. And, in a way, not--ever. Some things stick. Gerry Ford had physically stumbled only once or twice in public when he became, officially, The Stumbler. Mr. Ford's stumbles seemed to underscore a certain lack of sure-footedness in his early policies and other decisions. The same with Jimmy Carter and the Killer Rabbit.

I'm getting a mental image of her jumping up and down, waving her hands at Hillary and screaming, "Over here, over here! I want a job!"

LOL ........... I said just about the same thing after her last rotten article on the Coretta King funeral. Peggy Noonan is officially a waste of time, and certainly may need a job with a President Madame Hamhocks.

"What has gotten into Peggy?"

Inside the beltway cocktail parties. Hey Peggy, say hello to Sandra Day O'Connor, won't you?

She jumped the shark...

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America ” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, passed the first balanced budget in a generation, and passed the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen our defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

A replacement Vice President would be a weak lame duck rather than a strong hand who would command respect. I can't imagine why this would be a good idea.

It's not a good idea. It's about as foolish as her entire last article about the Coretta King funeral.

She's far gone.

Sounds like Peggy's been hitting the sauce.

I tend to think a little "sauce" might just help the pathetic girl.

Peggy is pushing 60, but she plays at being a 15 year old coquette, whenever she's on Hannity and Butthead.

LOL.......... but, imo, it's Vanity and Butthead.

Peggy Noonan is a mordant idiot, a bitter, OLD, totally irrelevant, POS hack.

LOL

There's a section in "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" that I am reminded of when someone lays it out hard and direct (and right) like you just did.

****

Sundance to Etta: What I'm saying is, if you want to go, I won't stop you. But the minute you start to whine or make a nuisance, I don't care where we are, I'm dumping you flat.

Butch: Don't sugarcoat it like that, Kid. Tell her straight.

I received a lot of very ardent criticism for "daring" to even question Noonan's piety, or whatever it was.

There was plenty of that going on here too.

It was the elitism in that column that hit me. She was looking down........not only on President Bush, but on every single American who understood the concept and vision of the innate desire for freedom given by God. She was looking down on Christians, and it was highly offensive.

But criticizing her words translated into 'hatred' in a few of her ardent supporters, and they were ready to take our heads off.

This article is far worse, IMO. She was elitist and narrow minded in the Inaugural column, but in this one she is mean and vindictive, not to mention completely illogical.

I have no doubt in my mind that she is bowing at the alter of the liberal media to get into the good graces of her inside the beltway cohorts (which will never happen). The only other option is that she has become a rotten person.

Agree that Ms. Noonan has tended lately to go off the reservation, but in this case the first thing I also thought (in case his friend passed away from his wounds) was the VP might decide to step down to remove this as a distraction to the president.

Benefits: Dubya could in effect appoint a likely successor, and he's specifically mentioned that he'd like to see Condi in the White house. In fact, a scenario like this is probably the only way that Condi Rice would or could be persuaded and positioned to run in '08. Second, it would help pull the plug on McCain's hopes (however faint) that he could be the nominee. I do not trust that man's judgement or sanity but he might (by early '08) persuade enough Republican voters that he's the "only hope" to beat Clinton II to have a shot in the primaries.

But I now think to Reagan's credit that it was his talent reaching through Noonan's scribing more than vice versa, in her former work with Reagan as to speechwriting.

Sure seems like it.

You DO know that Zeta-Jones is married to Bill Clinton's A#1 donor and benefactor and Democrat honcho, do you not? I see her photos pasted on FR threads and I always wonder what the point is, given that she's married to Mr. Top Liberal Democrat himself.

Mo Dowd......... your first clue.
