Hit Refresh? Why Bush may be thinking about replacing Cheney. Thursday, February 16, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST The Dick Cheney shooting incident will, in a way, go away. And, in a way, not--ever. Some things stick. Gerry Ford had physically stumbled only once or twice in public when he became, officially, The Stumbler. Mr. Ford's stumbles seemed to underscore a certain lack of sure-footedness in his early policies and other decisions. The same with Jimmy Carter and the Killer Rabbit.

Ann Coulter seems to be heading down the same road. Hey, if these conservative women want to go the MoDo/Molly Ivins/Helen Thomas/Eleanor Rodham Clift bitter harpy route, more power to them, I guess. I hope it doesn't happen to Michelle Malkin.
It will NEVER happen to Michelle Malkin. That girl has the courage of her convictions. She's even courageous enough to face the threats from the Islamofascists.
She's Lucy Liu...with brains.
Oh you noticed that too? And the voice she puts on....it's as grating in it's own way as Susan Estridge's. I think she's been upset since GW did not choose her to write his eulogy speech for Pres Reagan's funeral.
Why are reporters so stupid?
Plus this...what highpowered politician would even accept a job that's only guaranteed for one year? It would be political suicide.
I was reading about previous Vice Presidents yesterday. President McKinley's Veep died one year before his term was up. They didn't even bother to replace him. The nation was without a Veep for a year, and the people hardly noticed it.
Of course, that was way back when the Offce of the Vice Presidency held little power or influence.
If Cheney has done nothing else as Veep, he has at least raised the status of the office.
Peggy Noonan ought to educate herself and read a little history before she sits down at her keyboard again.
Peggy Neener isn't a conservative and never has been. From her WSJ screeds, I see her as more of a moderate who was much more comfortable in the George H. W. Bush administration than she was in Ronald Reagan's White House. You're absolutely spot on about her "points of light" writing style. Totally out of sync with Dubya's Texas shorthand. Michael Gerson is the ideal wordsmith for the president, even better than David Frum was.
Something tells me that when Neener's contract with Dow Jones & Co. runs out, it won't be renewed...
LOL!
The NFL can wait, Condi...............signed, Paul Tagliabue.
Rough Riding
At the dawn of the twentieth century there was no Vice-President of the United States. This fact did not seem to bother anyone. Alone of all the major offices in the Federal Government, the vice-presidency could be left vacant until the next presidential election provided a new incumbent. When Vice-President Garret Augustus Hobart died in November 1899, the only problem presented was that the McKinley administration would have to find a new running-mate for the 1900 campaign. Even had he lived, that might have been done anyway, for the practice was to deny a Vice-President renomination for a second term. However, as Hobart was particularly close to the President and enjoyed great popularity with the Senate and important sections of his party, an effort might have been made to defy this tradition.
I knew I should copy this earlier today
Torie said it very well!

On Peggy's style: " the fuzzy, day dreaming as a substitute for ruminating, fact free, speculative, opaque, pointless twilight zone" Freeper Torie
BINGO!
I love Dick Cheney. I said something to hubby last night about Cheney stepping down, and he became very annoyed with me and said, "No way." And a few other things. I expect if hubby thinks this way then the real men in the White House think that way as well. And I would bet money that Ronald Reagan would feel the same if he were alive or if a similar thing had happened during his admin to someone he respected. I don't expect that George H.W. Bush went hunting very much, but wasn't there something about hooking himself or someone else with a fishing hook? Accidents happen, and the media and folks like Peggy Noonan are showing what dolts they are and now disconnected they are from reality. I do wonder what we would say if the shoe were on the other foot.
Not necessarily.
Suppose there is a new VP in 2007, even a second rate hack. Then suppose that in 2008 Bin Ladin's head is on display, the Dow is at 18000, the Islamics have surrendered, Iraq is peaceful and exporting oil which causes gas to be under a $1 a gallon.
That VP wins in 2008.
If those things don't occur that VP loses badly.
Noonan resigned her position with the WSJ to volunteer with the Bush administration. Too bad she neglected to ask if she was wanted before she resigned her day job. Noonan has only recently rejoined the staff at the WSJ.
That would really be perfect for her. Her heroin can continually be a sweet Catholic virgin (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Never will happen to Michelle!
journalism school for a start
YEAH, RIGHT! REPLACE HIM THEN WITH JOHN ASHCROFT!
F. Lee Levin would be my pick for the main man!
I tell you, tx.........it looks more and more like Brit's the only real journalist left.
Fascinating.
