Can you just imagine this poor little sailor standing over a huge bowl with one of the little hand-held sifters like I would use! LOL! I would guess that they had something bigger than that!

We didn't "sift" the flour. We put the flour, along with all the dry stuff, let the mixer do it's thing, then start adding in the wet ingredients.

YEP. the "sifter" was probably about the size of a #3 washtub! & likely took 2 KPs to shake it!
