A victim of Hurricane Katrina is accused of breaking into the Louisiana State Capitol, shouting obscenities, and yelling out Governor Kathleen Blanco's name. Louisiana State Police say Andre B. Smith, 29, of Gretna, gained entry into the capitol around 8:30 Tuesday night by throwing a metal trash can through a glass door on the east side of the building. Gretna is a suburb of New Orleans, located in Jefferson Parish.
A police report of the incident says Smith said he was a hurricane victim. "He advised he was staying in a shack in Plaquemine and was aggravated about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina," the responding officer wrote in his report.
Smith was booked into the East Parish Rouge Parish Jail on charges of criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, simple burglary, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. As of late Wednesday afternoon, he was still being held without bond.

I was really posting this because MeeMaw is having a bad day. It wasn't so much about the "victim". Blanko has a big mess on her hands and some people are simply frustrated.
However, if you are going to break into the capital it would be best to leave your drugs at home.

And don't hold it against those of us on the West Bank that the East Bank is to the North and the West Bank is to the South! The best part is driving across the Crescent City Connection--driving due east to go to the West Bank and vice versa!

I don't even say "north" or "south" anymore. No matter where I am, I always say "towards the Lake" or "towards the River." I even said that in Houston. Granted, it was to another New Orleanian, so she knew what I meant.
