Lot of fans forgive Frank's fraternization with the mob saying he had to pal around with them b/c they owned all the clubs where he sang to make a living.

Sinatra's fabled career---its peaks and valleys--- allegedly served as the basis for the Johnny Fontane character (played by Al Martino) in the 1972 movie, "The Godfather." Fontane's floundering career in the film is put right thanks to "mob" muscle.
