Nobody will say what, imho, needs to be said, which is that there is no way that you can hope for a big, bloated government bureaucracy with it's Harvard MBA flow charts and inflated egos to work in a disaster. The only government "agency" that you can count on is the US military. They will tweak this, but that won't fix it. More money will pour in and that won't fix it either. I know this and they know it too, but no one will say it.
Chertoff didn't help matters today...when he said they are in the process of making changes...and I heard yesterday that he is asking for hundreds of new people...yikes!
One thing I did hear today that made me mad...a GOP representative...a woman whose name I didn't get...said that when the FEDERAL govt...saw that, for whatever reason, the local and state governments were failing, they should have GONE IN IMMEDIATELY, and take over.
I seem to remember that there are quite a few LAWS that prohibit the feds from just bullying into a state and TAKING OVER....and what would these same people be saying if Bush had authorized THAT??
They are already calling him King George...if he had gone in there within the first day...and pushed Blanco and Nagin aside...WHOA!!!
