"He will say that the reason it took so long to come forward is because of his concern for the shooting victim."

No one expected Cheney himself to make the announcement. I want to know why his staff did not do their job and make the announcement themselves in a more expeditious manner...it's what they get paid to do.

Their making the announcement would in no way interfere with Mr. Cheney's personal concern for his friend.

This was a huge screw up.

I goofed, it's David Gregory.

Oops, you're right, jazusamo: David Gregory, not Dick Gregory! I forgot his name also... so many FReepers just refer to him as "Monkey Boy" Gregory... ;-D

Gregory and Kerry use the same groomer.

Doesn't anybody see Cheney as a real liability going into the '06, and especially the '08 elections? For the record, I was hoping he'd step aside during last year's election, in favor of Rice or someone else...

He's already been thoroughly demonized in the media (that in itself isn't reason enough to step down), but the accidental shooting has made him a laughing stock to many voters... He's always being portrayed as mean to begin with, this solidified the hate, not just on the left, and the media (redundant?), but also a good chunk of the middle.

I, for one, really hopes he steps down soon. He was already gun-shy about appearing and becoming visible the last couple of years, partly because of the association with Haliburton... now, I have to admit, he's become a liability to the GOP.

I know I'll be blasted for this by my fellow FReepers, but too many of you always have your rose-colored glasses on. I'm trying to be pragmatic. Flame away, I've got my hat on.

Thanks for letting us know Peach. I'd like to think that this will keep the hounds at bay, but unfortunately, I don't believe it will. The press has been relentless, like ghouls hunting for blood and flesh. They are so evil, they'd like nothing more than for this to end in a murder rap for the V.P. They won't be happy until Cheney has a heart attack himself. I'm also sick of the media demanding that the V.P. apologize. He doesn't owe an apology to anyone except Mr. Whittington and I'm sure he's already done that many times over. God forgive me, but I can't help hating them for what they are doing.

I may be flamed but I do believe that the WH goofed on this one. It is best to be out in front leading the parade than trying to clean up after it. I know that he will say all the right things but they are coming a little late, the parade has already passed by.

Weird weather patterns in the northeast. Glad you're all okay there.

Thanks. We got about 18", but Central Park in NYC got at least 26".

I'm not going to flame you for that. This is one time I can take both sides of that issue.

Good. Nothing will get their goat (DNC & Old Media) more than the VP selecting FNC as the venue for his statement.

Prayers for Mr. Whittington, his family, and the VP and his family.

I predict that Cheney will be his usual "un-talkative" self...and will say no more than necessary..

I am sure this has been hard on him on a personal level...but, couldn't care less about that the MSM thinks.

"I'll all for getting this story done today and not let it keep on dripping..."

The only ones keeping this thing dripping is the ghoulish press that obviously hasn't had their fill yet. They want Cheney to apologize. But even that won't stop the redundant questions. Wait until Mr. Wittington gets out of the hospital. The press will hound him to death...literally.

IMO, I don't believe this story hurts anyone but Old Media.

The people who hate this administration to begin with are the only ones who are "outraged" over the accident and the subsequent handling of the story by the admin.

Sensible people aren't going to get themselves all worked up over what was clearly an accident, and will not be bothered by the fact that the MSM was passed over in favor of a local news outlet for getting the story out.

Eyespysomething has reminded us of this:

Harry Reid had a minor stroke last year and asked why announcement of the event was delayed for three days, Hafen said, "The reason was the tests and the evaluations that they were doing. We wanted to make sure we knew what we were announcing. You need conclusive information."

"I may be flamed but I do believe that the WH goofed on this one."

I'm not sure what part of this story you think the White House goofed on, but no matter how the WH handled this, it wouldn't have satisfied the press, and the same feeding-frenzy would be taking place.
