Secret audiotapes of Saddam Hussein discussing ways to attack America with weapons of mass destruction will be the subject of an ABC "Nightline" program Wednesday night, a former federal prosecutor told Cybercast News Service.
The tapes are being called the "smoking gun" of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq. The New York Sun reported that the tapes have been authenticated and currently are being reviewed by the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
The panel's chairman, Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), declined to give the Sun details of the content or context of the recordings, saying only that they were provided to his committee by former federal prosecutor John Loftus.
Loftus has been tight-lipped about the tapes, telling the Sun only that he received them from a "former American military intelligence analyst."
On Tuesday night, Loftus told Cybercast News Service that ABC's "Nightline" would air an "extensive report" on the tapes Wednesday night. Loftus also described an ABC News "teaser," which reportedly contains audio of Saddam Hussein discussing ways to attack America with WMD. "Nightline will have a lot more," said Loftus.
This year's Intelligence Summit will bring together top terrorism experts including Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, author of "Funding Evil," 9/11 investigator Jean-Charles Brisard, author of "Zarqawi: the New Face of Al-Qaeda;" former CIA agent Michael Scheurer, author of "Imperial Hubris," and Richard Marcinko, former head of SEAL Team Six, and author of "Rogue Warrior."
The Intelligence Summit will be featured not only in the Wednesday Nightline report but also on ABC World News Tonight.

Thanks for posting this.
The Sun seems to be one of the top news sources lately for the most accurate and up to date info.
""[T]here were no weapons," Sen. Hillary Clinton, (D-N.Y.) recently commented"
Please explain your husband's repeated statements that there were.
An appropriate question for the "news" media: Why is it you explain away any fact - and there have been more than one - that could be used as justification for the Iraq war? Is this your agenda?
When the plot was foiled, the "goods", ie the chemical weapons, were grabbed. The plot was unsuccessful, but it was not "pulled out of thin air"...
the infowarrior
Didn't say it was.
You're right. This is just what they did during the Clinton impeachment fiasco.
"The news of these tapes came out over two weeks ago on the John Bachelor radio show"
Late January, as I recall, when Loftus came on the show. At that time he stated that the tapes would be aired at his "intelligence summit" on February 18. Loftus said at that time that there were boxes of tapes, or CDs, taped by Saddam on purpose, covering a dozen of years, in the possession of the government. The way Loftus described it he was implying that there were so many that it would have taken a long time to listen to them all to find out what was on them. Loftus said that this tape or tapes or CD had been overlooked for the three years that it was in possession of whomever had it, presumably the government. Loftus also said that there were numerous voices on the tapes, many of which had been identified, and that the NSA had authenticated the tapes or cds or whatever they are. The tape or cd that Loftus is offering is a compilation of conversations over many years. Whether it was compiled by Saddam or by Loftus' source, or by Loftus, I am not clear.
Last night Loftus said that the tapes have Saddam, Tariq Aziz and other speaking in the Tikriti dialect, and that the NSA had authenticated the voice patterns of "Saddam" as actually belonging to Saddam. However, he also said that the conversations only made sense, that is, they only were understandable as referring to WMDs to a person familiar with the terminology used by Saddam and his gang, otherwise they were not obviously referring to WMDs.
But that wouldn't be news.
I'm sure the NY Times will run this front page above the fold.......
Apparently, the NSA or other US agency verified Saddam's voice on tape. Of course, the libs don't care about the truth.
All together now: despite these tapes, recent confessions by top Iraqi gov officials under Hussein, and all the world intel saying he had them simply stick your head in the sand (or keep it there) and babble to yourself that THERE WERE NO WMDS!!!! Because prominent libs told us there weren't any. Even if these same libs said they were there when Clinton (who also strongly affirmed they were there) was president.
ABC Nightline TONIGHT.... ABC will air pieces of the 12 hours of tapes, from Saddam himself...
This supposedly will be tonight...
Why isn't the MSM burying this one... or is it too big..
Unless they really wanted a story to run with that would bring back some of their audience and credibility. It could, if handled well, be a blockbuster for them.
Though I doubt getting a great story will trump their politics, so we will just continue to hate them and their bias and watch as they circle the drain and lose audience.
How can they justify sitting on this information for 16+ hours. Oh, wait, that's right, it is okay to sit on news if you are the media or if the news doesn't fit your agenda but not okay to delay the release of information if you are the administration.
Saddam: "We will attack Washington with nukes!"
Reporter: "But ABC News has found that Saddam didn't really mean this..."
Saddam: "We will use our connection with my good personal friend UBL!"
Reporter: "But everyone knew he had never even MET the Al Qaeda leader..."
Saddam: "The DNC is on my payroll."
"But Howard Dean says this isn't true--and we believe him."
By going with the story first, they can place themselves on an inch-higher pedastal than the rest of the media, because they "broke the story."
They will completely forget any misreporting they did on earlier broadcasts, and take credit for airing the new tapes.
If these tapes are real (and I believe they are) then why didn't the WH use them over the past 2 1/2 years to debunk the MSMs' and dems' attacks?
You might want to ping this one.
Thats not quite the way I heard it on ABC radio news break. They said the tapes are authentic. Saddam was talking about an attack going to take place on the USA but Iraq would not be involved. They were also talking about their WMD program. They believe the tapes were made a decade ago.
