Help HRC elect allies who will champion the cause of equality and stand up to anti-gay legislation. Together, activist supporters like you, and principled leaders like our PowerSLATE Candidates can secure a solid base of support for equality in the United States Congress. Thank you for being part of this important effort. How it works:
- Make HRC SLATE your vehicle for candidate giving.
- Choose from bipartisan candidates and incumbents selected by HRC-PAC because of their record on GLBT issues and/or the closeness or importance of their race.
- HRC-PAC will add your contribution to those from other HRC members, and deliver them as a powerful show of united strength from the supporters of equality.
Why it matters:
- Coordinated political giving through the HRC SLATE lets candidates know that the supporters of GLBT equality put their money where their values are.
- Coordinated giving makes sure that GLBT and fair-minded voters get maximum credit for their willingness to invest in candidates they can count on.
- Coordinated giving helps priority candidates withstand the well-financed opposition of anti-gay candidates and interest groups.

Yeah right, pro-life my a*s. He is pro-life just like Tom Daschle was. Or maybe he is like Ding Harry? He is also supposedly "pro-life". Hey, even Hilary is personally opposed to abortion. Nope, the only Democratic Senator that could perhaps be called pro-life is Ben Nelson.

Some FReepers also say that if there is a McRino vs. Hilary race in 2008 they won't bother to vote (I've also seen some declaring that they are going to vote for Hitlery because she is supposed to be better than McVain).

it's a tough decision, i think it's one of the reasons why santorum is so low in the polls. he put his career and position in the senate before the people and his ideology.

Not tough for me. Santorum is pretty solid relative to Senate standards.
In the name of party strategy/loyalty, Santorum holds his nose and we get Sphinct..., er uh, Specter again. I fear what we would get when Casey succumbs to his party's pressure.
Pubbies always seem to be low in polls in statewide PA elections...until late on election night when western and rural precincts report.

It's bizarre for PA Republicans to blame Santorum for Specter, when it was in the hands of the PA Republican voters *themselves* to decide if Toomey or Specter would be the nominee. The majority of PA Republicans, right or wrong, went for Specter. (I was sore it wasnt Toomey, but it is lunacy to hold it against Santorum, utter lunacy.)

He still votes conservative, and I don't see how the endorsement made a difference. I like Santorum, I agree with most of his positions. He is a good Catholic.
For some folks, even a 90% rating from the American Conservative Union isn't conservative enough.
Such people are the liberal democrats best friends.

Santorum should also benefit from the Swann effect. These guys should definitely campaign together--they compliment each other very well. Santorum will help bring the conservative "T" home for Swann, while Swann should help Rick secure some much needed votes from Blacks and blue-collar union folks.
The Human Rights Campaign's (aka, the Butt Sex Rights Campaign) endorsement of Casey should be hung around his neck like an albatross. He must be forced to declare his stance on same-sex marriage and abortion at every possible opportunity. Both issues are lose-lose for him.

Guess who raised more money last quarter.
Hint, it wasn't Chafee.

PENNSYLVANIA: Santorum Gets Boost from Caseys Homosexual Connections It looks like Democrat Robert P. Casey may have thrown away much of his double-digit lead in his race against Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum by introducing himself to the regions lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community on Feb.18 at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Philadelphia Region Steering Committees annual gala. The Human Rights Campaign PAC endorsed Casey last October. Ken Oakes, who chairs the HRC Philadelphia Region Steering Committee, says that Casey does not agree with HRC on everythingbut he agrees with it about 90 percent of the time. In a Feb. 3 phone interview with the Gay News, Casey reportedly said, . . . were very happy to have the endorsement and the support that comes with it.
The Human Rights Campaign expects Casey to support second-parent adoption, civil unions, domestic-partner benefits and expanding federal hate crime laws to cover crimes motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity.
Senator Santorum has been a leading proponent of a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Casey opposes both state and federal constitutional amendments that would define marriage as between one man and one woman.
Casey, the son of the late pro-life Governor Bob Casey, who currently serves as Pennsylvania State Treasurer, is considered by many to be pro-life. Given the anger and dismay directed at Santorum by pro-life grassroots activists when, in 2004, he campaigned for the re-election of pro-abortion Arlen Specter against former Rep. Pat Toomey, who was widely perceived to be a pro-life candidate, Caseys claim to be pro-life represents a real threat to Santorums ability to retain his seat. However, once pro-family Pennsylvanians learn of Caseys alliance with homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists represented by the Human Rights Campaign, Santorums poll numbers are likely to rise dramatically.
What Did PA Candidate for Governor Lynn Swann Mean? While media reports give the impression that Republican candidate for PA Governor Lynn Swann is pro-life, his responses were contradictory and confusing when he appeared on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, February 12. The interview went like this:
Stephanopoulos: You describe yourself also as pro-life. What does that mean to you exactly?
Swann: Ah, that you are in favor of life, that you do not believe in abortion, ah, that you look for alternative measures and means other than having an abortion.
Stephanopoulos: And so, if you were Governor and the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade would you try to pass a law banning abortions in the state of Pennsylvania ?
Swann: Well, if the Supreme Court overturned it then they basically overturned it, they basically said that you know, you cant have an abortion.
Stephanopoulos: No, no they would send it to the states and it would be up to each state to decide.
Swann: Well, if they send it to the states to decide as opposed to making the decision that abortions are illegal then I would sign legislature (sic) making abortions illegal.
Stephanopoulos: No exceptions.
Swann: Oh, there would be exceptions. Stephanopoulos: For?
Swann: In terms of the health of the mother, rape, incest.

Interesting....I don't know what to do. I suppose I don't have a choice but to vote for Santorum, but I would rather not. Too bad there is not somebody better and I have ever right to say this because I am from Pennsylvania.
