China: We invented golf

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use.

ANCIENT paintings allegedly proving the Chinese invented the game of golf 1000 years ago are to go on display in Hong Kong.

The pictures from the 13th and 14th centuries show Chinese noblemen hitting balls into holes with clubs that look remarkably similar to modern golf clubs.

The paintings will go on display in an exhibition titled Ancient Chinese Pastimes in Hong Kong's Heritage Museum from March to June, the South China Morning Post reported.

Golf is widely believed to have been invented by the Scots in the 15th century but some Chinese historians argue that the game was being played in China by the year 945.

They point to evidence of a game called "chuiwan" - "chui" meaning to hit and "wan" meaning ball - and say the game was taken to Europe by Mongolian travellers.

Chief curator of the Hong Kong museum Tom Ming said: "The game shown in these drawings is very similar to modern day golf. (This is) very strong evidence that we invented the game."

Interesting, when you say "They" are you referring to the government of China, the people in China or the chinese in the world? What about Taiwan? I recall that your president have signed treaties, given arms and vowed to protect Taiwan from mainland China's aggression. Since you married a Korean, her family is more in danger of Kim Jong Il than China.

I'm not saying that China (her government) is not dangerous. But the Chinese people are not your enemy. When I'm waving the U.S. flag if we go to war with China, I hope you're supporting me and not wanting to take me out.

The Chinese people ARE our enemy IF they support that government.

If you are waving the US flag and have become a citizen RENOUNCING China, then you are my compatriot, not my enemy.

What IS it with people now days who want to make people who want to KILL us to be considered somehow not an enemy?

If we have a war with China our best bet is to launch as many nukes as possible to obliterate their country on the double quick. If we do not they could hurt us and hurt us bad. Chinese people do NOT care about the lives of their OWN people much less ours. Oh, we would win a war with China fought in conventional terms, but they will cripple us.

And SURE as heck the fetid Europeans won't help us a bit.

But, one last question... what is the "chinese world?" What does that even MEAN? And, usually people have the respect to capitalize a proper name.

One last statement. FDR was RIGHT to put Italians, Germans and Japanese into camps in WWII. War means hard choices. If we go to war with China I would be suspect of ANY Asian person I did not know in THIS country.

Then you can start by putting your wife into the concentration camp. In fact, if internment occurs, you would be a PRIME target for the feds, because everyone knows Chinese spies are especially good of using women. How do you really know that she's Korean? :)

Jeremiah2911 -- i think he just answered my point.

Inventing something does not make you great. The Roman short thrusting sword and pila spear was invented by the Spanish (Iberians), but it was the Romans that developed tactics to use them effectively that allowed their Legions to dominate the battlefield. The Chinese invented crude steel, gunpowder, rockets and cannons, but the Europeans kept improving them that by the Opium War in the 1840's, British guns on iron clad steam ships outranged the Chinese guns and decimated the Imperial forts. Inventing something is like graduating from college, it means nothing if you do not apply it effectively.

Um, in case you didn't notice, Koreans are NOT Chinese!!

This isn't a "race" thing. It is an ENEMY thing.Once the English were our enemy. I would have felt the same way about them. The Japanese were our enemies. NOW they are NOT.

You people have a MAJOR problem understanding what the word ENEMY means.

With all do respect, you need to lighten up a bit. We are NOT talking about blacks, who were in fact persecuted in this country. The "N" word is a powerful symbol of that persecution. We are talking about the Chinese, who have received nothing but (well-deserved) benefits from this country, just as the English, Irish, Scottish, Italians etc etc. Call me a Limey or a Mick; I couldn't care less.

The Chinese people ARE our enemy IF they support that government.

I agree

If you are waving the US flag and have become a citizen RENOUNCING China, then you are my compatriot, not my enemy.

Glad to hear

What IS it with people now days who want to make people who want to KILL us to be considered somehow not an enemy?

I would challenge that ascertion that China is an enemy. Rivals yes. Wanting to be on equal footing as the US yes. Want to change the monopolor world into a bipolor world yes. Stupid and wanting to kill the world no.

The government doesn't give a rip about it's people. Plenty of examples of religious persecution and slave labor abound.

And SURE as heck the fetid Europeans won't help us a bit.

Europe is dealing with Islamofascist anyway

But, one last question... what is the "chinese world?" What does that even MEAN? And, usually people have the respect to capitalize a proper name.

What I meant is Chinese in the world who DO support freedom, DO despise the government in China, etc.

One last statement. FDR was RIGHT to put Italians, Germans and Japanese into camps in WWII. War means hard choices. If we go to war with China I would be suspect of ANY Asian person I did not know in THIS country.

That would include your wife correct? North Korea has alliances with China so you're in the same boat. Although I suspect the hate crimes will exist for all Asian people.
