George Lucas has quite a Valentines Day treat for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Only four days after House Republicans lampooned their rivals with a Star Wars-themed film, the bearded sage of the Star Wars universe will make a rare Hill appearance today alongside Pelosi and House Democrats.
At Fridays House Republican retreat at Marylands Eastern Shore, a short video, produced by the National Republican Congressional Committee, depicted GOPers as the virtuous rebels, being pursued by Darth Nancy and her imperial henchmen, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Democratic campaign chief Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.).
But swooping in on his X-wing fighter to save the day for Democrats is none other than Lucas himself, who would undoubtedly take issue with the GOPs analogy.
Lucass appearance proves that the Force is with House Democrats this year, Pelosi spokeswoman Jennifer Crider said before adding that Democrats might be more appropriate because our Senate colleagues are doing very well, too.
Lucas, who doesnt hide his Democratic leanings, has been critical of Republican administrations going back to Nixon. He even went so far as to inject to the consternation of some fans some unmistakable commentary on current events in his recent series of Star Wars films.
One of the main features of the back story [of the saga] was to tell how the Republic became the Empire, Lucas said at the Cannes Film Festival last year. At the time I did that, it was during the Vietnam War and the Nixon era. The issue was not how does a dictator take over but how does a democracy and Senate give it away?
He added, The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we are doing now in Iraq are unbelievable.
At todays event, in HC-5 at 11 a.m., Lucas will join Pelosi, Reps. George Miller (Calif.), Hilda Solis (Calif.) and Kendrick Meek (Fla.), and more than 100 college students to discuss the need to create a new generation of innovators that reflects the diversity of our country.
Crider said the event has been planned for weeks. She said Pelosi and Lucas have known each other for a long time, as Lucass company is based in her district.
Lucas has always been a Rat. Haven't given him any of my money since the Empire Strikes Back.
Sorry, just thought these were funny and was hoping to find a thread to post them to.
True statement. I'm not believing in any such parallels.
oh god, LOL!!!
Let's talk about Jar-Jar, George!
In his spare time, he shaves the beard, dyes his hair, and moonlights on radio/televsion.
Except that if George shaved his beard, "you'd find his lack of chin disturbing..."
"He added, The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we are doing now in Iraq are unbelievable. This idiot is beyond dumb &$$... Didn't he ask any Vietnamese fleeing the communists of the North Vietnam or any Iraqi living through Saddam's reign of terror? What did we do in Vietnam that deserves these leftist hatred!!!
...yeah.....the Dark Side of the Force!
The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we are doing now in Iraq are unbelievable.
Wow.
Blows my mind he is so disconnected with reality.
The only parallel is that we fought against evil.
Communists expansion then, and tyrant terrorists harboring dictators and terrorists now.
Only this time WE ARE WINNING and making sure freedom takes!
I guess democracy in the middle east and people voting means nothing to them if it came about because of Bush policy.
GAWD I wish somone would debate this guy. He wouldnt last two minutes.
Actually there are plenty of parallels. The far left wing of the Dems, along with their communist fellow travelers, imposed a cut and run policy on Nixon, and then reneged on the promises that were made to South Vietnam. Today what was the left wing of the Dem party is it's core constituency. They have allied themselves with those same fellow travelers, and have a temporary alliance with the terrorists as well. IF they can, they will impose the same sort of cut and run policy today.
The difference being that the NVA wasn't interested in Bombing DC or NY City, while the terrorists already have. Those acts, have turned the actions of the Dems from political posturing to win elections, which worked BTW, into treason pure and simple, which isn't working politically the way they'd hoped.
I nominate Christopher Hitchens. Hitch is at least a leftist that has seen some of the light. Maybe he can smack Lucas to the light side of the force.
Honestly, I sometimes find his "creativity" to be a bit heavy-handed. The facial features of two Neimodians were intentionally sculpted to bear similarities to two politicians - and just to make sure we "got it", Lucas named his Neimodian senator "Lott Dodd" (after Senators Trent Lott (R-Mississippi) and Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut), and his Neimodian Viceroy/executive officer of the Trade Federation "Nute Gunray" (after Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan):
You didn't see any of the Indy films for political reasons?
