White House Shoots Foot( Barf Alert)
New York Slimes ^ | February 14, 2006 | Coward who does not want to be identified

Posted on 02/14/2006 8:18:12 AM PST by Kaslin

Let's see. The vice president of the United States accidentally shot someone while bird-hunting on a Texas ranch. It took the White House nearly 24 hours to share that information with the rest of the nation because Dick Cheney thought it would be better for the ranch's owner to give the story to the local newspaper first. And by the way, it was all the victim's fault.

That's their story, and they're sticking with it.

Mr. Cheney was a weekend guest at a ranch owned by Katharine Armstrong, a lobbyist whose family has longstanding ties with the Texas Republican Party and the Bush White House. Mr. Cheney, who is proud of his reputation as an outdoorsman, was gunning for quail when, according to Ms. Armstrong, a 78-year-old lawyer named Henry Whittington got between the vice president and the bird. Mr. Cheney pulled the trigger, forgetting one of the National Rifle Association's top rules for gun safety: "Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target." Mr. Whittington was sprayed with birdshot.

What the Slimes leaves out is that Mr Whittington had left the hunting party and then rejoined it without notifing any one that he was behind the VP

Don't expect reality to be reported by the NYT. They invent and specify THEIR OWN reality...ala genuine ThugoRat style of liberal utopianism.

There is a bright side to this. Nobody is talking about wiretaps or Abramof at the moment, and nobody is taking this seriously except moon bats.

"Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target."

I don't think Cheney violated either of these. The identified target was the bird, and the area beyond the target was not the problem (since Whittington was between Cheney and the bird).

He certainly violated a safety rule, but not the one the Old Gray Whore chose to cite.

Hey, didn't you know that NYT is a proud member of the reality-based community? We all know that, right?

Actually both the VP and Mr Whittington are at fault

"Mr Whittington had left the hunting party and then rejoined it without notifing any one that he was behind the VP"

He went to pick up the birds he had shot from the first covey, and was returning - from behind.

Have you ever been on a bird hunt where your zone of fire included any area behind you?

Of course. But I was only addressing the fault of Mr. Cheney.

Gosh, that must mean that Karl Rove is behind it. This entire affair is just something Rove cooked up to divert attention away from ___________. (Fill in blank with Abramoff, Plame, global warming, or tinfoil hat conspiracy of choice)

David Gregory. Pig of the Year. Did he protest so much when the stained blue dress was known to have existed for at least a year and Clinton didn't call him personally to announce that he had left a sample on a dress that would later get him impeached? NOOOOOOOOOOO

Filthy Lib/MSM/Dem Traitors.

anyone who has ever hunted or has ANY common sense at all would know you do not come up behind someone with a loaded gun without letting them know you are there...

unless the situation is not a friendly one that is! the onus is on the idiot who snuck up behind the vp

Mr. Whittington is a private citizen whose health status is covered by the HIPAA Laws. Patient consent must be given before any information can be released. If the White House had knowingly violated the patient's privacy, David Gregory would be asking if this is an Impeachable Offense.

Good point. One of those WH Pig Core people asked if Cheney would resign. Puuuhhhhlease!

Scott McClellan should ridicule everyone of those fools like he did to Gregory for being riled up.

Let's see if I have this right. First a hunting accident occurs. The VP ensures that his injured friend receives medical attention. They promptly arrive at the hospital and most likely wait for word from the medical staff regarding his long time friend's condition. Then the next morning, the owner of the rance calls the local rag and provides the entire story. They also report it to the local sherriff. An investigation is completed and it is deemed an accident. The victim is in good spirits and does not blame his friend, the VP.

Now, the media has him in the dual of the century, they have him covering up an impeachable offense for waiting to long to inform them. In reality, the big media machine is just PO'd that they didn't have someone tailing his every move and there to break the story before the "little paper" in Texas.

For some reason they think the administration is accountable to them....Not to the citizens.
