Saddam Says He's on a Hunger Strike (good news!)

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein and three former officials in his regime on Tuesday told the court handling their trial that they were on a hunger strike in protest of the judge overseeing the proceedings.

Saddam said he had not eaten in three days, while his former intelligence chief, Ibrahim Barzan, said he had been on strike for two days. Their claims of a hunger strike could not be independently confirmed. The defendants are being held in U.S. detention, and U.S. officials could not immediately be reached to comment.

Investigative judge Raid Juhi did not deny the defendants were refusing food when asked about the strike after the day's three-hour session. "This is an administrative problem that the court is working to verify and it will work also to solve it... with the responsible parties in the custodial authorities," he told reporters.

"But, as you could see, the defendants are in good health," he said.

Chief judge Raouf Abdel-Rahman, who took over the court last month, has worked to impose order in a court where outbursts and arguments have frequently overshadowed the testimony.

At the start of Tuesday's session, Saddam told the judge, "For three days we have been holding a hunger strike protesting against your way of treating us — against you and your masters."

Well maybe there is finally some hope of bringing justice to this maggot, via his own stupidity. Let us pray he stays on his hunger strike until he takes his rightful place along side the other genocidal maniacs of history.

OTOH force feeding is a thoroughly uncomfortable procedure. Hmmm, immediate gratification or deferred satisfaction?

Excellent idea. At least they could move on with the trial -- and would break his strategy of obstruction...gee, sounds just like the liberals in the Congress, hmmmm. Is that where he learned this?

Saddam on a hunger strike? It has been said that he just loved Dorrito snacks. Everyone should open a bag and walk in front of his cell and just snack away. Heck, maybe they can even bring them into the court room.

I am so sick of every press article that announces the trial is in "chaos" every time Sadaam walks out of the room. Big deal, he will swing either way. They're just in a tizzy now because this judge isn't taking their crap and the gallows are getting closer.

Let's wire his jaw shut. Now THERE'S an idea!

That would serve two purposes. Keep him honest on his hunger strike and keep him from mouthing off during his trial.

I like it.

If his rapid weight loss causes his underwear to fall off while he's lounging in his cell, no one is going to think this is funny.

Maybe he should be found with ladies panties pulled over his head!!! If there was ever a more suitable target for some good, old fashioned revenge, it is right here!!! I wonder if he likes pork rinds??

That's the media spin machine at work. They're on overdrive in Iraq.

The trial's not in chaos. The witnesses are testifying and that's what's important.

We've been watching to coverage on Sky News at lunch - almost live - it's on a 20-minute delay- and our Iraqi co-workers were laughing and cheering today every time the judge told Barzai Hassan to "shut up," which he did frequently. LOL

Saddam Hussein and three former officials in his regime ...

What environment is Sadam in that this can be coordinated with his former officials? I guess lawyers?
