Go look up the rest of the story. Google and history are your fiends. I can't do all your work.
I've been doing that. Unfortunately, "Austrian grouse" only generates one Google hit that actually talks about birds, and the first three or four pages of hits for "franklin" and "turkey" don't indicate that he meant anything but a wild turkey.
Too bad, it sounded like a good story.
Don't forget Bald Eagle Ice cream...

Way cool!
January is the best month to catch the Lackawaxen eagles. They're generally around December-March depending on the winter. Being a mild winter this year there's plenty of open water further north so the migratory birds are going back north early. My brother was there about a week ago and was disappointed to see "only" 5 eagles.
My understanding is that the Lackawaxen through Pike County doesn't freeze over because of the Lake Wallenpaupack power plant. The open water is a magnet for the eagles. It isn't a big river and a 2 lane road follows close to one bank. It's called Towpath Road because back in the 19th century mules towed barges along the river and a canal. Remnants of the canal are still there.
Try to make a January trip next year. Just google Lackawaxen eagles for info. You're not that far. In the town of Lackawaxen there's a place called Two River Junction. They have a telescope trained on a nest and let eagle watchers take a peek.
Saw 14 of them on the way to work this morning in MT. They usually show up in December and are all gone by March. More juveniles here this year than in the past few years.
I have to disagree. Although a bald eagle is very relaxing to watch, I prefer walking around our house on days when there are over 50 hanging around.

Eagle River, Alaska
Probably not preferred real estate for them. . .this is prime osprey territory (fish eagles)and they are major enemies.(Flash back to scene of Clinton with 'recovered' eagle being returned to the wild. . .bird takes off. . .Oh, no! Shot down by osprey!)
