The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department today issued a report on Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting Saturday of a fellow quail hunter on a sprawling Texas ranch. The hunting accident report, a copy of which you can find below, briefly recounts how Cheney plugged Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Austin lawyer, with birdshot in the face, neck, and chest. According to the state report, Cheney was wearing a "blaze orange" cap and "coat/vest" and brown trousers and was toting an Italian-made Perazzi .28-caliber shotgun. In addition to the document's release, wildlife officials reported today that while Cheney had purchased a valid non-resident hunting license, he did not obtain a required "upland game bird stamp." As a result, a warning citation--which carries no fine or penalty--will be issued to Cheney, which state officials described as "routine." And as for whether Cheney would have needed to previously take a hunters education course, state wildlife officials noted that such classes are only required of hunters born on or after September 2, 1971. Cheney was born January 30, 1941. While yet to release its report on the shooting, the Kenedy County Sheriff's Office this afternoon issued a press release noting that an "investigation reveals that there was no alcohol, or misconduct involved in the incident." In an interview with deputies, Whittington "collaborated Vice President Cheney's statement," according to the release, which concluded, "This was no more than a hunting accident." (3 pages)
I just read a transcript of the press briefing about the accident, here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/02/20060213-4.html
One reporter actually asked, "Scott, would this be much more serious if the man had died?"
Oh yes, the MSM are giving Cheney the bird, in spades; stupidly.

That guy is lucky he wasn't killed. I hear those are really powerful and dangerous guns. Maybe we need special gun legislation to keep them out of the wrong hands. :^)
OHH Peach I saw that STUPID Ron Prescott Reagan
Since the Smoking Gun.com has released his home address and the MSM are going to be camped out there now, the least we could do is send him a get-well bouquet:
3201 Greenlee Drive
Austin, TX

And, that wasn't just any policeman. He was a security guard at a back gate security checkpoint at the Westchester County Airport in October 2001, right after 9/11.

Ok, being only moderately knowledgeable about firearms, can someone tell me what this is? I've never heard of a shotgun referred to in calibers.
The incident report unfortunately had one line under Misc. for "caliber" - see link above.
Pretty; very pretty. Hmmmmm
Drudge is reporting that Cheney is paying for the bird stamp nonetheless ; )

"It has been brought to the Vice Presidents attention by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department this afternoon that, although he had acquired a 125 dollar Texas non-resident season hunting license, he lacked a 7 dollar stamp for hunting upland game birds. To address any questions about the licensing:
-- A member of the Vice Presidents staff wrote a check for 140 dollars understanding that this would purchase a Texas non-resident season hunting license that would permit the Vice President to hunt quail in Texas. It appears now that the license itself cost 125 dollars, and an extra 15 dollars covered the cost of a Federal migratory bird stamp. The Vice President did not need the Federal stamp, as he already possessed one.
-- The staff asked for all permits needed, but was not informed of the 7 dollar upland game bird stamp requirement.
-- Because the requirement is new, the Department has informed us that it is issuing warnings, and the Vice President expects to receive one. He will take whatever steps are needed to comply with applicable rules.
-- In the meantime, the Vice President has sent a 7 dollar check to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which is the cost of an upland game bird stamp."
Hey, if we ban $100,000 shotguns, then only the criminals will have them!
Not about to stop Ron P(ENIS) Reagan though.
The association estimates there are 15.7 million hunters who will spend about 250 million days hunting in the United States this year.
Associated Press writers Nedra Pickler, Elizabeth White in Washington, T.A. Badger in Sarita, Texas, and Lynn Brezosky in Corpus Christi contributed to this report.
An average of 16 days per hunter? I also noticed from that story that the other hunter in Cheney's group was Pamela Willeford, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland.
In an interview with deputies, Whittington "collaborated Vice President Cheney's statement ...
I do wish that he merely "corroborated" it.
I watched the briefing on TV, and laughed like crazy when I heard that.
Sounded like wishful thinking on the reporter's part. That briefing today was something to see -- absolute proof these so called impartial journalists are anything but!!!
Also, one asked if Cheney was going to resign -- and Scott laughed before answering.
You should have seen Helen the hag's face.
These people are despicible.
