The training, conducted at Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost Province, covered a variety of engineering skills, such as vertical construction, carpentry, masonry and basic job-site safety. "The attendees at this workshop were selected by 15 local contractors who each selected four of their workers based on experience and skill," said U.S. Army Col. Mike Flanagan, commander of the coalition's Combined Task Force Sword. "Those attending the workshop are allowed to keep the tools they worked with during the course and will come away with a variety of construction tasks in which they are now competent."
Engineers from the 864th will continue the workshops in the weeks and months to come. Fifty-six more workers are scheduled to attend them.
